I had something very similar happen to me recently. On 19th April, I got a voicemail but only checked it on 21st since I’d been away over the Easter weekend and had no reception. The message claimed there was some sort of fraud case against me and said I needed to press 1 to speak to an HMRC officer or else a warrant would be issued for my arrest. Luckily, I was with my folks who told me it was almost certainly a scam; after all, HMRC wouldn’t be answering calls at 3:30pm on Good Friday, would they? I also figured it might be linked to me just getting a new phone that morning and setting it up before leaving. This kind of thing has cropped up before, so I ended up ignoring it. Now that I’m back, I looked up the number and, unsurprisingly, loads of others have reported the same call - over 200 searches this weekend alone! Someone really ought to be held accountable; this is just pure wrong. The caller id was 03002003082.

Got a recorded message telling me there was fraud with hmrc and to hit 1 or they’d send a warrant for my arrest. It’s terrible how many of these scams are happening nowadays. Got a call from a robotic voice warning me about some tax fraud linked to my name with HMRC. They said if I didn’t press 1 or get through to them, I’d be arrested real soon! Caller ID showed HMRC or something similar. Quite scary!

I got a call like that too. Luckily I managed to chat with the genuine HMRC just last week, and they told me they only ever send letters while you’re waiting on hold.
