I had a rather similar experience recently. On the 19th of April, I found a voicemail waiting for me when I returned from the Easter holiday on the 21st, as I didn't have any signal while I was away. The message was alarming-it stated that there was an alleged fraud case linked to my name and urged me to press 1 to connect with an officer from HMRC. It ominously warned that if I didn’t, a warrant would be issued and I risked immediate arrest. Fortunately, I was at my parents’ place, who quickly calmed my nerves, pointing out that HMRC wouldn’t be operational at half past three on a bank holiday (Good Friday, no less). I had also just acquired a new phone that very morning, which made me wonder if it was related, as I had experienced similar scams previously. Hence, I chose to disregard the message. Now that I’m back home, I decided to look up the number, and lo and behold, it appears that many others have reported similar incidents, with over 200 searches for the number just this weekend alone! It's absolutely disgraceful, and someone ought to be held accountable for this sort of thing. - caller: 03002003082

Received a rather alarming automated call purporting to be from HMRC, claiming I needed to press 1 or else face a warrant for my arrest. It’s utterly outrageous how rampant these scams are becoming! What’s baffling is how these fraudsters manage to evade consequences for their deceitful and harassing tactics. It’s quite sickening, to be honest! I received a rather alarming automated message claiming there was a tax evasion issue linked to my name with HMRC. The voice insisted that if I didn't hit 1 or get in touch, I’d be facing imminent arrest! - Is this really from HMRC?

I've experienced that too. Fortunately, I managed to get through to the genuine HMRC last week, and they confirmed that while you're on hold, they exclusively reach out via letter.
