Nearly got caught out, some bloke said I'd be nicked if I didn’t pay up. I said I’d sort a payment plan for a £2000 tax fraud, but told 'em I wasn’t giving any bank info unless they showed me my tax code password first. They ended the chat sharpish, telling me there’d be a warrant out for my arrest if I didn’t pay.

I have received a similar message like many others, accusing me of tax fraud under my name. It claims that I will be arrested. However, I am fortunate to have checked the number and not fallen for it. It worries me that others might not be as cautious. Immediate action needs to be taken to address this issue.

If we didn't press 1, we were warned that we would face charges for fraud. The identity of the person delivering the message remains unknown, but it is certain they are not from HMRC.

I have had the misfortune of receiving two bothersome phone calls from this particular number, in which an individual claimed that I would be taken into custody. I find it absolutely appalling that such activities can go unpunished. Therefore, I shall be reporting this matter to the police without delay!

There have been reports of a deceptive phone number claiming to be from the HMRC, warning individuals that they will face arrest if they fail to respond to the call. However, upon closer investigation, it appears that this number actually connects you to a call centre in India or another Asian country. The scammers at this call centre then try to trick you into providing personal information in order to authenticate your identity. When I received such a call, I challenged them to provide the information they claimed to have about me. Interestingly, they could only provide my name and phone number and had no further details. Sensing something fishy, I refused to provide any more information. At that point, the scammers resorted to threatening me with arrest by the police. It's worth noting that the police do not get involved in HMRC matters, so such threats should be dismissed as false and baseless.
