I had a rather alarming phone call earlier, where the person on the other end claimed I was implicated in a tax fraud investigation. When I pressed them for more information, including my address, the operator, who had quite a strong African accent, started raising their voice, threatening that if I didn’t comply with their requests for personal information on behalf of HM Revenue and Customs, I would be carted off to jail. I promptly ended the call without providing anything. - Caller: HM Revenue and Customs

I've just had yet another dodgy call purporting to be from HMRC. It's high time BT tracked these calls and cut off their access. The caller was clearly just pretending to be from HMRC.

I've received yet another call from someone claiming to be HMRC, going on and on about potential fraud and suggesting that I could be arrested. It's utterly ridiculous! I've already reported the number and blocked it, but it seems these scammers just don't know when to stop.

Dodgy scammers - I've already reported this to Action Fraud - I urge everyone else to do likewise. I received an automated message purporting to be from HMRC, threatening arrest if I didn’t comply. Whatever you do, don’t press any buttons on these calls or divulge any payment information. Fingers crossed these lowlifes get their just deserts in the nick soon! - Caller ID: 03002002258

Similar situation occurred to me, got a call on 4th May 2019. It was alarmingly aggressive - they claimed to be from HMRC, stating I was on the verge of arrest and insisted I press 1 urgently. I decided to hang up rather than engage. The caller identified themselves as HMRC.

I received a call from someone purporting to be from HMRC, but he had one of those dodgy Indian accents that instantly raised alarm bells. Instead of losing my cool, I decided to have a bit of fun with him. I quizzed him about who I should be paying my taxes to, and when he pressed me about why I hadn’t been doing it, I cheekily replied that it was simply because I didn’t fancy it! Got a right chuckle out of it, to be honest. - Caller ID said Steve Johnson.

I encountered an automated female voice with an unmistakable American twang. The hold music was hilariously over-the-top, almost goofy. In the end, I decided to hang up and sought assistance on this site instead. What a relief that was! Much appreciated! - caller: 03002002258

This morning, I had a rather odd phone call from this number. The caller wanted my name and address, so I thought I’d give him a cheeky response: I said I was Philip Hammond living at 11 Downing Street in London. He promptly entered that into his system with zero hesitation! Next, he asked for my National Insurance Number, and I gave him a dummy one. Then he wanted my banking details... it was quite amusing to see he didn't catch on. Curiously, I asked him if he knew who Philip Hammond was, and to my surprise, he said it was me! I couldn't help myself and called him a right numpty before hanging up. - Caller: HMRC.

I received a call from this number, and the moment I heard the automated voice mention HMRC, I immediately disconnected and blocked it. Just a heads up-HMRC never requests payment via phone calls. It's best not to get involved with them at all. - caller: HMRC

I appreciate you bringing these calls to light. I've received two calls from them myself but chose not to pick up. The straightforward reason being that I’ve nearly given up answering calls from numbers I don’t recognise. I encountered a similar situation on the 15th of April when they rang me from a different number: 02039622041, purporting to be from HMRC. After I cut the call, I was taken aback to receive yet another call from someone claiming to be the “police” on 01622690690 - which, quite alarmingly, is the actual switchboard number for Maidstone Kent Police. In any case, a big thank you to this website for being so useful! - Caller number: 03002002258
