I got a call with an automated voice pretending to be from HMRC. Luckily, I didn’t pick up, so no harm done.

Claiming to be HMRC is a complete scam! I wouldn’t pick up at all. Instead, why not set a voicemail that goes something like, ‘Calls from numbers I don’t recognise won’t be answered. Please leave your name and why you’re calling and I’ll get back to you. Cheers!’

Really strange timing - I’d just been dealing with HMRC for something official when this number popped up. Lucky I didn’t pick up the phone!

So, I got this automated call saying it was HMRC and that I needed to press 1 to stop a warrant for my arrest. I just ended the call straight away. But it got me thinking, what if I had actually pressed 1? What are these fraudsters after exactly? Could it be they’re trying to grab info from my phone or something? Really makes you wonder.

I recently received a rather suspicious call from ‭0300 200 2228‬, where the voice on the other end claimed to be from HMRC, stating there was a fraud case against me and that I was about to be taken into custody if I didn’t press 1. The chap, who sounded Asian, proceeded to ask for my name and address. I couldn't help but remind him that he should already have that information since he was the one who called me! Unsurprisingly, he hung up quite abruptly. Clearly, it's nothing but a scam! - number: 0300 200 2228 HMRC
