I received a rather alarming call from the number 0300 200 1676, claiming to be from HMRC's fraud department. They didn’t even have my name, which struck me as odd, so I refrained from providing any personal information. They ominously threatened to send the police to my residence for my supposed arrest, insisting that someone was misusing my tax code. The caller seemed to speak with an accent that I would describe as Indian, and while it felt somewhat convincing, I was unnerved by their method of operation - they called me, introduced the situation, and prompted me to press 1 to continue. When I attempted to call back, I was met with an unavailable message. I strongly advise everyone to stay cautious. I've already reported this incident to HMRC via email and I'm currently waiting for their response from their fraud team. Beware of this number: 0300 200 1676!

19/07/2019, 10:36am: Got a missed call from 0300-200-1676 on my phone, caller just hung up without leaving a message. Checked WCM site and it claims 0300 numbers belong to charities or non-profits, but that info must be out of date. Definitely a scam call. Number blocked now.

On the morning of the 19th July 2019, around 10:36, my mobile got a missed call from 0300 200 1676. The call dropped straight away and no message was left. According to some info on the WCM site, these 0300 numbers are linked to charities, but I’m pretty sure that info is out of date. Definitely a dodgy call, so I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number.
