Got a call claiming to be from HMRC saying there’s a tax fraud case against me. They told me to press one or a warrant would be issued and I’d be arrested soon. Totally sounds like a scam to me.

Got a call from 0300 200 0258 with someone saying they were from HMRC, threatening an arrest warrant if I didn't press 1. This happened on 26/06/2019. As someone quite young and new to working, it was really frightening. Luckily, I found out HMRC wouldn’t ever handle things like that. Caller claimed to be HMRC.

HMRC don’t usually ring you up out of the blue... if anything, you get a letter about your tax codes or a P45 or P50 form in the post sometime. Only if you’re some big shot dodging taxes do they bother calling directly - probably invite you out for posh dinners or something. For the average punter like me, it’s just them chasing you for payments or fines. Caller ID: like I said.

Honestly, with the rubbish way our local cops have been doing things, it’s no surprise they’d rather focus on stuff like nabbing paedophiles, stabbings, or armed robbery instead of chasing up a warrant. If only that was the case for real, eh? That call felt straight outta Lord of the Rings or something!
