I received a rather alarming call claiming to be from HMRC, stating that there’s a tax fraud allegation linked to my name. They instructed me to press one for more information, warning that if I didn’t comply, a warrant would be issued against me and that I could face imminent arrest. Absolutely absurd and quite worrying!

I just got a call from 0300 200 0258, claiming to be from HMRC. They said if I didn’t press 1, there’d be a warrant out for my arrest! I received this on 26th June 2019, and I must admit, it is rather alarming, especially for someone my age who's only just started working. Thankfully, I’ve been told that this isn't how HMRC operates at all. Caller ID said it was HMRC, but it felt rather suspicious!

It's quite unlikely that HMRC would ring you up. If anything, they’ll notify you about your tax obligations next year, or send a letter regarding your P45 or P50. Unless, of course, you happen to be a rich individual dodging taxes, in which case they might well roll out the red carpet and host you for dinner! But if you’re just an ordinary bloke like Joe Bloggs, they’ll be hot on your heels. Just saying! - Caller: as mentioned before.

Honestly, even by the lamentable benchmarks of our constabulary, you'd think they'd have more pressing matters at hand than executing a warrant. Surely, they'd be better off focusing on the real criminals - paedophiles, knife-wielders, armed robbers - you name it! If only that sentiment rang true. - Caller: Lord of the Rings
