I recently received a rather peculiar phone call, and the voice on the other end sounded remarkably like Jacob Rees-Mogg, if you can believe it! The caller claimed that I was involved in some fraudulent activity with HMRC and warned that I would face arrest if I didn’t get back to them soon. Being an accountant, I can assure you that HMRC doesn't initiate contact with threats over the phone-they always start with a proper letter first, often multiple times. It’s clearly a scam! I advise anyone who gets a similar call to block this number right away.
