I really doubt this call was actually from Eon. They’ve got no reason to be contacting me since I’m not one of their customers. Seems like a total scam to me. If this really is E.ON Next, they’re way more annoying than I expected. I keep getting texts, emails and missed calls about their so-called smart meters. What’s with the big push on these things? Just think how much hassle it’d be if you actually had one fitted - these smart meters have their own SIM cards, so they could switch your tariff on the fly or, even worse, cut off loads of customers all at once.

Got a call after I’d scheduled a smart metre swap through the Eon app. They were just checking the specifics of the appointment time. When enough people report the same number, it sets off an alert to warn others on the phone network. For scam texts, forward them to '7726' too, but it's also good to email screenshots to '[email protected]' so they can be properly checked. Any scam emails should be sent there as well. If you’ve accidentally given your bank info to a scammer, contact your bank right away then call the police on 101 in Scotland or 03001232040 elsewhere in the UK.

If you're interested in a smart meter, it’s better to arrange it yourself through their website. Also, check what happens if the meter malfunctions. I reckon this is probably someone working for Eon, fitting those Smart Meters. They usually get a bonus based on how many they get installed, so they tend to be quite pushy. I’ve heard they sometimes exaggerate, like saying your current meter is about to stop working soon just to get you to agree quicker.
