I wasn’t familiar with the number but there was no message once I checked the answerphone. To me, that usually means it’s a scam. Interestingly, I got a call from a very close number just the day before.

Our BT service has flagged this number as suspicious, but out of curiosity, I decided to look it up on Google. Will these con artists ever tire of using dodgy phone numbers? It's rather unfortunate that Ofcom appears to be struggling to put an end to this nonsense!

I've got BT’s call-blocking service in place, yet somehow this one slipped through the net. No voicemail was left, which is a clear indicator of a scam. It makes you wonder what the point is of shelling out for these blocks if they’re not doing their job!

Today, a call came through from 02380 179171, and after five rings, they disconnected. I recognised the 02380 area code as familiar, so I pressed 3 to return the call. However, I was greeted by a pre-recorded message stating, "This number cannot accept incoming calls right now." That certainly piqued my curiosity and made me suspect it might be yet another dodgy marketing attempt. Scrolling through this site, it appears many others have had similar experiences, often linked to calls about loft insulation or other such schemes.
