Just got a call from someone claiming to be Tekane at Capitec. They seemed to have all my details already. At first, I wouldn’t give out my ID number, so he switched and asked for my birthday, which I stupidly gave. He said it was a courtesy call, thanked me for repaying my loan, then moved on to confirming or updating my info. Feeling uneasy, I asked what info he had, and surprisingly they had everything. I didn’t actually update anything though. After hanging up, I contacted Capitec directly and they said it definitely wasn’t them calling. Honestly, quite worrying. My mum warned me not to entertain calls like this because they could steal info right over the phone. Be careful, everyone.

These idiots keep ringing me up, saying they're from Capitec bank... Since I’ve got identi-call set up on my job phone, I just let them ring out. I’m actually with the fraud team over at capitec and just so you know, they don’t ring you from a 021 number - it’s always those 086 or 087 prefixes. we get tons of complaints about these dodgy calls all the time. honestly, if anyone calls pretending to be us from a 021, just tell them to shut it cause they’re making the bank look awful!

SCAM ALERT - I’m with Capitec’s fraud team and we don’t use 021 numbers to call customers, only 086 or 087. We get loads of reports about this kind of thing all the time. If anyone calls you from 021 pretending to be the bank, just ignore them and don’t engage - they’re ruining our reputation. Seriously, tell those scammers to do one!
