It seems they possess all of our details.
The chap on the line introduced himself as Tekane from Capitec. I refrained from providing my ID number, but he instead requested my date of birth, which I unwittingly shared.
He claimed it was a courtesy call to express gratitude for my loan repayment. After that, he inquired if I had any questions before attempting to confirm or update my information.
Feeling a bit wary, I probed into what information he already possessed, and it appeared he had quite the dossier. However, I chose not to update anything and promptly rang the bank afterwards.
Capitec assured me it wasn’t them making the call.
It’s rather alarming, to say the least.
My mother advised me not to engage with such calls at all, suggesting they can easily siphon off information over the phone.
Just a heads up, folks!
