12 yearsPicked up the phone but there was nobody on the other end.12 yearsthis number just rang me, but when i got to the phone it was already on answer machine and there was no one, just a voice saying "goodbye" and then it hung up. ive now gone ahead and blocked it. i’m seriously done with these calls, probably blocked over 100 in the last year or so. so annoying!12 yearsGot a call today from some bloke calling himself "Jason" - definitely made up. He claimed my computer was being hacked from Japan and Alaska or something. He even started spelling out "msconfig" for me to type in. When I asked if that’s what he meant, he sounded shocked like I knew, so I told him I wasn’t daft and then he just hung up. Proper muppets. This is my third call like this recently. I usually fake it and mess with them before telling them where to go, but loads must get fooled by this nonsense. Something really oughta be done about these scams!JasonAlaskaJapan12 yearsIf you scroll up and check my earlier comment, you’ll get the full picture. Just putting it out there again for anyone curious.12 yearsBeware of a group of tech fraudsters based out of Kolkata, India. Back in 2015, on the 11th of February, they operated via the IP address 223.29.201.210, connected through the ISP meghbelabroadband.com. Their usual scam involves duping folks into thinking their computer is hacked by using basic tricks like showing normal system events with eventvwr, stopped services through msconfig, or running simple scripts that pretend to reveal hacking attempts. This racket is run by a company called http://techconsultancy.services, although they’ve got loads of other names too, such as globalwidesolution.com, affiliatedhelp.com, globaltech-support.com, livetechguru.com, and a bunch more. They’ve also got a habit of spoofing phone numbers on their VoIP calls, including 01163182304, 0012124567893, or 02124567893. You can actually catch their scam in action on this YouTube clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKhD7pF59WE.
