Got a call telling me I supposedly went over my electricity bill by £7,000 and needed to ring them to sort it out. When I dialled them back, the woman on the line couldn't even answer simple questions about energy at all. Pretty clear to me it was a scam.

That recorded voice was proper creepy! I’d seriously warn people against calling back - might be some dodgy premium rate or even a way for them to bother you more. Definitely not worth the risk.

Got one of those recorded calls again, claiming to be from the tax office, saying I’ll get arrested if I don’t pay. What a load of nonsense! I had pretty much the same call around this time last year. Best not to reply or ring them back, it’s just a scam.

Just got a message on my answerphone today at 12:08 from a polite-sounding English bloke who said, "Before your case goes to court and you get the legal notice, ring 0208 635 8855 straight away." He said the number twice and ended with, "Don't ignore this!" Sounds like a total scam to me. Why on earth would anyone waste their time with this nonsense? It’s just a dodgy, intimidating call from some stranger. Best to just block and ignore!

I received a call from 0208 638 8855 warning me about an impending prosecution and an arrest warrant, urging me not to ignore it. The message was automated. Honestly, I haven’t done anything illegal that could justify an arrest warrant, so I was certain it was a scam and decided to just disregard it. But I realise some might get scared straight away and could be tricked into doing things they normally wouldn’t. It’s important we stay alert and keep pushing phone providers to clamp down on these deceptive calls that are nothing but trouble for everyone.

I'm an older person living on my own and have simply been ignoring and blocking such calls. But when they leave messages saying stuff about legal action, arrest warrants, and telling me not to ignore their calls, it genuinely upsets me a lot. I really wish this awful breach of our privacy would stop sooner rather than later.

The number seems to be based in Harrow, up in north London, which has a huge Indian population. When we checked the call origin, it actually comes from overseas. We welcome immigrants with open arms but end up dealing with a lot of dodgy characters as a result.
