Rang us at half past eight in the evening, looking for my other half, John. Introduced himself as Edward, almost as if they were old mates or something! I informed him that my husband was out and inquired what the nature of the call was. He claimed to be from the Art Gallery and said he'd be in touch with John the following day on his mobile. I couldn't shake the feeling that it was some sort of scam since we’ve no connections whatsoever with any art establishments in London. The chap on the line had a proper posh accent, and I didn’t give him any opportunity to be cheeky with me. If he dares to call again, he’ll get short shrift for sure!

I reckon this was a follow-up from a previous unsolicited call. My partner, rather regrettably, mentioned an interest in investing in the arts, and ever since, this chap has been quite relentless. He insisted on speaking to my partner directly, using his first name like they were old mates. When I probed a bit, asking who he was and the purpose of the call, his response was something along the lines of "us lads need to have a word." He also made an odd comment about how if his missus picked up the phone at home, she wouldn’t bother asking who was calling or why. I kindly requested that he refrain from calling again, but lo and behold, a month later, he was back at it with the same overly aggressive tactic.

Today, my Mum received a rather dubious call from someone claiming to represent a firm based in London-though she couldn't quite catch the name, it wasn't hard to sense something was off. He prattled on about "life arts" and kept urging her to invest money into some programme she had seen on the telly, babbling incessantly about the tantalising interest she could earn. My Mum, bless her, firmly stated multiple times that she was a pensioner and had no funds to invest, yet he persisted. In the end, I had to take over the call, as it was clear he wasn’t taking her refusal seriously. I politely requested that he cease his attempts given her position, and in a rather cheeky manner, he demanded to know my name. Naturally, I declined, pointing out how inappropriate it was to keep pestering my elderly mother, to which he quipped, “I don’t see any dogs here, love, only you!” Flabbergasted, I shot back, “Oh, lovely-so now I’m a dog, am I?” He promptly hung up, but mark my words, once I pinpoint that company’s name, I shall be lodging a formal complaint! It’s simply disgraceful to hassle someone of her age.

I received a rather pushy phone call from someone attempting to entice me into a gold investment scheme. My instincts tell me this might be one of those dodgy boiler room operations, rather than a legitimate chance to invest. I made it quite clear that I'm on the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) list and that they should refrain from contacting me. I refused to share or verify any personal details, knowing all too well that these could easily end up in the hands of other fraudsters. It's worth noting that these types of scammers can produce convincingly designed documents to ensnare those who aren’t vigilant.
