I've come across some dodgy characters impersonating Airbnb “rentals” who are keen to swindle money out of unsuspecting folk. They're peddling a long-term rental in Edinburgh through Facebook Marketplace, pushing for a direct bank transfer for both a deposit and a month's rent upfront. To top it off, they send a phony Airbnb invoice via email and put pressure on you to cough up the cash quickly, suggesting you might miss out on seeing the property otherwise. It’s quite suspicious, as both individuals I've encountered had strong Eastern European accents and only gave their first names, like Jessica. The bank details they provide are as follows: Agent Name: Johnson Amao Account Number: 00986870 Sort Code: 23-32-72 Account Type: Personal Bank Address: 51 Berkeley St, London W1J 8NL Reference: Personal They've even asked for proof of payment, instructing me to send a copy of the bank receipt. Quite the shady operation if you ask me!
