I’m disabled and deal with a bunch of health problems, including my heart, COPD, and PTSD. On top of that, I’m still coping with losing my dad. So when I got a voicemail telling me to call back straight away about some tax fraud, it really shook me up. It’s honestly made me feel really unwell. I’ve got trouble breathing and my anxiety’s sky high, like I’m on the edge of a heart attack. It’s hard for me to even write this now. I’m a total mess and don’t go out unless it’s for hospital visits. Although I found this website quite useful, I just can’t calm my heart rate down. I feel so ill right now. Got a voicemail from this number warning about some tax fraud stuff and asking me to ring back. It had that robotic kind of sound, which freaked me out a bit, definitely not okay. Knowing tax season scams are common I looked it up to see if anyone else had flagged it as dodgy. I’ve reported it to the cops, hope it gets blocked or taken down soon.

Cheers to all who confirmed what I suspected. It’s definitely a scam. Just think how scary it must be for older or vulnerable people catching a call like that. Watch out for 020 7094 4984 too - identical scam with a robotic warning. Best to block and delete straight away. Makes me wonder where they got my number from in the first place.

Totally a SCAM. Got a recorded message addressing "YOU" like they knew me, but how would they? They obviously have no idea who I am. It's the police who handle criminal probes, not HMRC. Really appreciate this site, it's been a big help. My mum, who’s quite old now, keeps getting these awful scam calls. One of them was especially nasty. All this mess began after some TalkTalk fraudsters managed to hack her. She won’t hear of switching her number, but honestly, I’m thinking it’s probably time I push a bit more to convince her to do it.

Like others have said, it's a scam where they claim HMRC is about to start legal action against you. Just a heads up, I hung up and then tried 1471 to check the last caller. The line hadn’t actually cut off, and I got a message saying “thank you for calling back” before I hung up again. I didn’t dial 14713 or anything fancy. Beware of this call - got a recorded message saying HM Revenue & Customs are looking into me for tax dodging. I also got a nearly identical call from a similar number earlier today, which I blocked using BT. Both these numbers come from overseas, even though they tell you to ring 0208 123 2266 or 0208 123 8826. Don’t ring them back, or you’ll get hit with huge fees!

Got a call that showed up as INTERNATIONAL on my phone, so there’s no way it was really HMRC here in the UK. They left an automated message claiming I was being investigated for tax fraud and told me to ring back immediately. Complete nonsense! I’m retired and haven’t paid tax in years. These scammers don’t even bother figuring out who they’re phoning. Don’t even think about calling the number they give - it’s likely overseas, could be a premium rate line, and they’ll probably try to get your bank details. Better to just block and ignore, though they’ll no doubt try again with a slightly different number. - caller: HMRC Scam
