Phone number ☎️ 02081238826 👆 is reported as a persistent scam involving automated calls falsely claiming to be from HMRC, threatening recipients with legal action over alleged tax fraud. The calls often originate from withheld or spoofed numbers and deliver intimidating messages urging immediate callback to UK numbers, which are premium rate or lead to further fraud attempts. Many find these calls distressing, especially vulnerable individuals such as the elderly or those with health conditions. Official HMRC never uses such call methods for investigations, and victims are strongly advised not to engage, call back, or provide personal details. Repeated blocking has limited effect as scammers frequently change numbers. Reporting to authorities like Action Fraud is recommended for those receiving these threatening messages.

Some bloke rang up saying he could sort out my computer problems, then tried to get remote access. Luckily, seemed dodgy as anything - total con!

I woke up to a recorded message saying “Ring 02081337293 for customs, prepare for legal action, goodbye and stay safe.” It really threw me off at first. Before dialling back, I searched online and was really relieved to find other people had the same creepy call and it wasn’t just me!

As a disabled individual, I have been diagnosed with multiple illnesses including heart problems, COPD, and PSD. In addition to dealing with the loss of my father, I was recently traumatized by a message on my answering machine stating that I needed to call back immediately regarding tax fraud. This incident has had a severe impact on my health and well-being. Right now, I am struggling to breathe and my anxiety is overwhelming, almost as if I am on the verge of having another heart attack. Writing this message is difficult for me as I am feeling extremely nervous. Apart from attending my hospital appointments, I rarely leave the house, though I have found solace in this forum. Unfortunately, my pulse rate remains elevated, and I am experiencing physical illness. If this turns out to be a scam, it feels incredibly cruel, wicked, and traumatizing.

Got a repeat robocall claiming to be from HMRC, saying I’m being looked into for tax problems and I need to ring back urgently on 02081238826. When I checked the number with 1471, it just showed as private. Pretty obvious this is a scam, so watch out. I’m just sharing here because they must be blasting out loads of these calls, probably some automated system just cycling through numbers nonstop.

I am tremendously grateful for this platform. It has become increasingly difficult for my elderly mother to cope with the constant flood of scam calls, and the latest one is particularly heartless. I just received a rather alarming call from the same number, 0208 123 8826, where they claimed I was under investigation for tax fraud. Oddly enough, it also appeared as an INTERNATIONAL call. It was a generic recorded message, which makes me suspect its authenticity. If HMRC were genuinely contacting individuals about serious matters like that, they would certainly send a written notice to make it official. There’s really no need to panic if you find yourself on the receiving end of this call. My best piece of advice would be to avoid calling them back. However, if you feel uneasy about the message, do reach out to your local tax office for clarification-a number can usually be found on the official HMRC website. Like others have said, it's a scam where they claim HMRC is about to start legal action against you. Just a heads up, I hung up and then tried 1471 to check the last caller. The line hadn’t actually cut off, and I got a message saying “thank you for calling back” before I hung up again. I didn’t dial 14713 or anything fancy. I’m not sure if I’ve been charged, so just double-check you’ve got a proper dial tone before ringing anyone back. Stay cautious!

Got a dodgy call from someone claiming to be HMRC saying they were taking legal action against me. They didn’t mention my name or any details tho. Honestly, HMRC wouldn’t contact you like that if it was serious - the courts wouldn’t even take those calls seriously. Also, keep in mind HMRC doesn’t send emails or texts about tax stuff. Totally a scam!

I’ve just been alerted by a text on my mobile claiming to be from HMRC, declaring that it was imperative I return the call straight away to prevent any further repercussions. The number provided was 0208 123 8826. Quite worrying, I must say! - caller: 02081238826

Got a call pretending to be HMRC, sounded proper threatening. Tried ringing their scam hotline but the wait was ages, so I never got round to reporting it. Hopefully this heads-up stops someone else getting caught out.

Beware of fraudsters posing as HMRC officials, attempting to intimidate you with false claims of outstanding taxes and the threat of immediate arrest unless you make an instant payment! Avoid answering their calls altogether, and if you have already picked up, simply terminate the call without pressing any keys. Also, refrain from returning their intimidating voicemails. Rest assured, there will be absolutely no legal repercussions as there is no legitimate arrest warrant. These individuals are merely attempting to frighten and deceive you.

Beware of this call - got a recorded message saying HM Revenue & Customs are looking into me for tax dodging. I also got a nearly identical call from a similar number earlier today, which I blocked using BT. Both these numbers come from overseas, even though they tell you to ring 0208 123 2266 or 0208 123 8826. Don’t ring them back, or you’ll get hit with huge fees!

Rang me up displaying as INTERNATIONAL, so there's no way it's from the HM Revenue and Customs. They left a recorded message claiming I was being investigated for tax fraud and urged me to ring back immediately. Absolute nonsense! I’m well into retirement and don’t pay tax at all. These scammers are too lazy to even verify their targets. Whatever you do, don’t ring the number they give you-it's likely overseas and possibly a premium-rate line where they’ll attempt to fish for your bank details. Best to just ignore and block the number; knowing them, they’ll probably try again with a different one. - Caller: HMRC Scam
