These ppl are scammers, dont waste time talking to them. Just report them to the Telephone Preference Service at https://www[.]tpsonline[.]org[.]uk and put your number on their list too. That way you get less dodgy calls and can report those scammers who keep ringing up illegally. If your number is on TPS, cold calls are against the law, and setting it up is really simple.

Nearly 5,000 awful and terrible reports in just two years, full of nasty, rude scam artists who keep harassing and cheating poor, vulnerable folks. It’s crazy that they’re still allowed to get away with it. It’s good you’re trying to do something about it, but honestly, i’m not sure it’ll ever really stop. Would be nice if they showed up at my door though!! I’ve got to say, this absolutely reeks of a scam. Right from the outset, something seemed off about the chat. They cunningly prised my meter reading from me, but thankfully I had the sense to cut the call short before revealing any personal details. If you receive a similar call, best to hang up immediately and check in with your energy supplier. Just a tip: legitimate callers will always go through proper security measures prior to any further conversation.

Definitely a con. When I asked who was calling, they said they were from the "Electricity meter reading team acting for your provider". I asked which provider, and he replied "British Gas". I told him we don’t use British Gas, and he quickly said "Oh, is this not number 11 then?" I said no, he must have mixed up the number. He said sorry and ended the call. I’ve had the same kind of call before and did some research to understand why they would want a meter reading, so I’m more cautious now. Hope this helps others avoid the same trap.

Strangely, they already had the address of my business, which added to my unease. Just to be thorough, I reached out to British Gas directly, and they confirmed that it wasn't them contacting me. Quite dodgy, if you ask me!

Received a call from the number 0208 123 7370. This bloke introduced himself as Jack and insisted on addressing me as 'ma'am', which got right on my nerves! He wanted to discuss my meter readings, claiming my energy bills over the past quarter were rather hefty. When I clarified they weren't, he mentioned he was representing my utility provider-they were indeed named correctly. Curious about how much my last three statements were for, I asked him to enlighten me, but he couldn’t provide that info. I requested a contact number to confirm his identity, and he tossed out 0161 8182 787! I refrained from providing any details to him and said I’d check with my supplier instead, then ended the call. Plus, I couldn't help but notice Jack had quite a noticeable accent that didn’t sound remotely British!

Been getting calls from some Indian call centre, all pretending to be energy companies. They keep asking for meter readings, saying you might get a refund or you’ve been charged too much. It’s clearly a ploy to trick someone who’s naive or vulnerable into giving away personal info and bank details. They use that to rip people off. Honestly, these scammers have no real talents or future, just choosing to mess with folks who are already at a disadvantage. Proper sad way to live.

I got a call saying it was from the SSE meter team, asking me to read our meter and update my details because apparently our meter is faulty. That’s not true at all. They were contacting an old email of ours - maybe someone before me got caught out or they just have old info. I told them I’d update everything online but they wouldn’t share the official site link with me.

I've received calls from both 0203 286 7744 and 020 8213 7370, and let me tell you, they're nothing but a bunch of scammers, pretending to be from energy meter services or something similar. Best to steer clear of these numbers altogether-don’t divulge any personal information to them!

Like many others have said, I got a call from a guy with an Indian accent saying his name was Jack and asking for my meter reading. He said he was with Smarter Energy, which is who we get our energy from, but I was already a bit wary since we’d had a similar call earlier this week that didn’t feel right. When I asked about the number he was calling from, Googling it showed it was a known scam. He told me the number on my phone was "a computer generated number." I told him I’d seen loads of reviews about the exact same kind of call and I wasn’t buying any of it.
