I answered the call and the strong Indian accent was obvious right away, so I told them I wasn’t interested. Then the bloke started swearing at me, calling me all sorts like “you mother****” and went on threatening things like “okay I’ll cut your meter.” I shot back with a few choice words of my own, including some in his native language.

SCAM alert. They called pretending to offer electricity deals, so I said I wasnt interested. Then they called again asking why, I told them the same. They rang a third time, I explained again I wasnt interested and this felt like harassment. Haven’t heard from this number since.

Got a call in Feb 2024, seem to have called me a few times now. The bloke sounded Indian, and was a bit hard to catch what he was saying. He claimed they needed to swap out my meter as it was losing units and wasn’t accurate anymore. When I asked for some more details instead of just saying yes, he just hung up on me.

SCAM ALERT - NEVER SHARE PERSONAL INFO - CONTACT NATIONAL GRID YOURSELF TO VERIFY. A woman with an Asian accent called claiming to be from National Grid, said they needed to schedule a meter change and gave an appointment date and time. She asked one of my colleagues for the owner’s details, which we didn’t provide. This was definitely a scam. I rang National Grid to confirm and they said no such appointment was in their system. When I called, an Indian bloke with a strong accent answered asking for business info and trying to sort a date to swap the meter. I asked which company he was from since he didn’t say at first. Then I rang National Grid myself to check if my meter needed changing and they said they don’t do that, plus my area isn’t covered by them anyway. There’s info here about how to use the system the police set up to make reporting all scam calls, texts, emails and other fraud attempts super simple for anyone. I was directed to do this after talking to my MP about the huge amount of scam calls I was getting. The scammers really don’t want this stuff to be known. When I questioned it, the bloke started saying I must have Alzheimer’s and then began threatening me. They've rung me four times. The first time, they claimed to be from Carphone Warehouse. The second call said they were with Vodaphone. On the third and fourth calls, they tried selling me a Tesla at a huge discount, but only if I gave them my bank info. The people on the other end barely speak English and seem clueless about UK places.

Said they worked for Carphone Warehouse and could sort out my contract cancellation without any charge. Kept calling even after I said I wasn’t interested. Could hear a lot of noise in the background, sounded like they were calling from overseas.

Got a call from a woman with a strong foreign accent claiming to be from the National Grid, saying they’d be swapping out my meter soon. She had our business name and address spot on. I kept trying to find out which company she was working with, but she just wouldn’t say. Had a hard time understanding her properly, so I asked her to send me something in writing. We’re based in Belfast.

There was loads of noise like you’re at a call centre, with someone asking for a business that isn’t here. I told him he’d got the wrong number and he asked to speak to a director. I said no and mentioned we’re on the Telephone Preference Service. Then he raised his voice and asked if I was a director. When I said no, he started demanding to know who I was. I asked him who he was while I looked up his number online. Honestly, it was kinda amusing how daft he was, but in the end I just had to hang up because he wouldn’t leave me alone.

Received a call from 02 8123 2474, a woman named Anna rang about a dodgy meter. She then asked for my DOB, and when I asked why, she wouldn't explain. I just told her to jog on.

A woman called Anna rang from (02081232474 ext 7014) saying she was with the National Grid and wanted to replace our meter on 10th October. She asked for our Business Manager to return the call but after checking this site, we won’t be getting back to her. We’re based in Wiltshire anyway.

I had an encounter with a chap claiming to be from the National Grid, and let me tell you, it was rather baffling. He started off insisting it was regarding my electricity meter, but then seemed a bit muddled. When I mentioned electricity, he abruptly switched gears, saying it was actually gas! To top it all off, he provided me with a completely arbitrary MPAN number, which is clearly associated with electricity. Definitely not the brightest bulb in the bunch! Mark my words, this reeks of a scam!

Received a call from 0208 1232474 - Ext. 7012 (Maya) who claimed they were scheduled to replace our electricity meter on the 8th of September. I rang up the National Grid to verify the number, but couldn't find any connection. We actually had a new meter fitted back in 2019 anyway. Definitely a scam!

I recently had an experience with an electricity meter installation that raised some serious red flags. They didn’t seem to have the faintest clue about who our energy provider was or the actual reason we required a new meter. It felt all sorts of dodgy. 0208 123 2474 Got a call on 24/08/22 to our office claiming to be from the National Grid Meter Team, saying they were going to fit a new meter. I asked for a contact number to ring back, they gave the same one. When I called it, all I got was a quiet “hello” and then nothing. Looks like a total scam, though I can’t figure out what they hoped to gain from a business.

On the 24th of August 2022, I received a call on our business line from someone claiming to represent the National Grid. They mentioned the need to install a new electricity meter. It seemed pretty convincing at first; they inquired about a convenient date and time for the installation, noting that the power would be cut for roughly 45 minutes, and were quite flexible. However, things took a turn when they attempted to transfer me to a registration department that wanted my banking details to allegedly refund an overcharge. I requested a callback number to verify their legitimacy. Strangely enough, they provided the very same number that showed up on my phone, and when I called back, the person who answered simply said “hello,” which instantly made me suspicious. I realised straight away that it wasn't the National Grid at all.

I had a rather bothersome experience with a caller claiming to be from the National Grid, insisting I required a new meter. They rang me about six or seven times despite my insistence that I'd researched their number and discovered it was linked to a scam. They were rather aggressive, shouting at me down the line, but I simply told them they could carry on their tirade as long as they liked; they weren't going to pry any details from me. I ended the conversation by putting down the receiver and stepping away. They eventually disconnected without calling back, and I believe I've successfully blocked their number. Just a tip: steer clear of these ill-mannered individuals and under no circumstances share any personal information with them!

02081232474 Extension: 7020 Caller said their name was Shehryah from National Grid. They've rung us a couple of times claiming our gas meter needs replacing first, then the electricity meter as well, which they said were faulty. This is odd since Octopus fitted brand new meters for us in the last couple of months. When I asked to speak to a manager, I got through but the bloke gave a totally confusing explanation then just cut me off out of nowhere!

So this bloke calling himself Alun Kumar, supposedly the Manager at the National Grid Station Meter Department, rang me from 02081232474. When he said he needed access to my premises, I told him straight up he wasn’t getting in. I called him out as a scammer, and he quickly hung up. I also said I’d verify with my electricity provider before giving him any more of my time. Honestly, these scammers really have no shame!

I received a dubious call from this number, claiming to be associated with the National Grid. They insisted that our electricity costs were inflated due to the distance of our supply line, which they alleged was a whopping 23 miles from our home. They were pushing for a new meter installation and suggested we switch our energy provider to MAXEN. After much back-and-forth, I firmly stated that it wasn't happening and ended the conversation. Utter nonsense! Just a blatant scam, if you ask me!
