I received a rather alarming call on my home phone from this number. The automated voice insisted that if I didn’t ring them back, I could be facing some sort of legal proceedings. Quite frankly, I suspect that if anyone were daft enough to return the call, they'd likely end up with a hefty bill. It's downright disgraceful behaviour, and it really ought to be put to an end. I fear that an unsuspecting elderly person might find themselves in a right pickle due to this. It's certainly not a pleasant experience to have!

On 9th Feb 2017, I got a call from this number while in Bradford, West Yorkshire - maybe it matches some area pattern? My answerphone caught it and the message was just like others have mentioned, supposedly from HMRC asking me to ring them back. On Saturday 2/9 we got the same sort of message, and honestly it's a really nasty scam. It nearly caused trouble at home 'cause my husband runs his own business and I started thinking he was keeping secrets from me. It totally ruined what was meant to be a nice weekend. If you pay attention closely you can tell the accent is from the indian sub continent, even tho they try to mask it. The clue for me was the callback no they gave: 2080 770 683. It's basically the first part of the number BT1471 gave me but flipped around, that is to say 0208 077 0683.

Got a call from 02080770683, totally a dodgy scam, really upset because they tried to trick my elderly mum. I saw a message from BT warning about this number, which was helpful. I’ve already let BT and HMRC know about it. I set up BT Call Protect on her home phone, which should start working from midnight tonight. Now, whenever she gets a suspicious call, she just needs to hang up right away, dial 1572, and press 1 from her landline to block that number - so hopefully she won’t get any more calls from them.
