Got a call this morning at half past eight, some bloke going on about me owing £1900 and threatening to have me arrested. Proper scary stuff, said he was from the Queens Bench Division of HMRC. I don’t speak English very well and being a refugee, it really frightened me and my kids. Luckily, my support worker told me it’s just a scam.

I got a call from someone saying they were from HMRC, but it was totally a scam. They tried to pressure me into paying up without sending any official email or court letter. They even threatened to send officers to my house. Honestly, just don't give them any info and hang up straight away. If you want, you can tell them off for all the people they've tricked.

Got a call from an Indian guy who claimed I had an arrest warrant 'cause my workplace supposedly messed up my taxes. He said I owed £2500 and could either get arrested at court or just pay up. Then he rang me from a different number and told me they were recording the call and watching me.

Had a dodgy call from someone saying I owed £3,000 to HMRC and they were threatening me with tax evasion charges. The weird part was they used the number listed on the gov.uk site to ring me back, so it sounded legit. I ended up speaking to Action Fraud, and they told me this scam is actually run from proper call centres. Pretty scary stuff.

Got a call from a bloke with an Indian accent claiming I owed £2500 in tax. Same old story as others here - said I could sort it out in court or pay an out of court settlement. He rang again from a different number after calling from 07403754603. First, he said I had to pay, then he’d send a solicitor with paperwork showing where the fraud was. If I proved him wrong, I’d supposedly get my money back! Total scam!

I got a call from someone with an Indian accent telling me I owed £1947 and that I’d be arrested right away if I didn’t pay. I hung up as soon as he started saying he was trying to help me sort the payment. Later, he rang me again from 020 7847 7772 but I just ignored it. It’s quite shocking and frightening, especially during this pandemic, to get calls like that threatening you to pay up immediately. I’ve reported everything to HMRC.

Felt well scary as he even gave another number (0207 947 7772), claiming it was the government trying to prove he was legit. Ended up hanging up when I told him I had no debts, no job, and no cash.

So I got a call saying I owed HMRC a big amount and they threatened to cancel my passport and freeze my bank stuff. When I figured out it was a scam, they asked me to send cash to a certain account. I refused, then another guy with an Indian accent called acting like he was the police, telling me they’d be at my place in 40 minutes. They told me to go to a gov website and enter an Escrow account number. The guy threatened that if I hung up, the court case would go ahead the next day. Just like others said, got a recorded call telling me to ring back, they said I was in trouble for tax fraud with an Indian accent. They kept pushing me to pay 2986 quid to sort it out without going to court. Threatening to take my passport and block my bank stuff. It was so stressful. I only snapped out of it when he brought up something about an ESCROW account. I ended the call, then he rang again but when I asked how many folks he’d conned that day, he cut off straight away!

I've had calls from this number and 0114 700 1554, saying I owed nearly £3000 because of tax fraud and other stuff, and that I'd need to use my student finance to sort it out. They said they'd pay it back since I'm a student. They even threatened me with court, a £12000 fine, and 120 days in jail if I didn’t comply. The voice was foreign, and the voicemail was a pre-recorded message with an American female accent. It sounded so real I nearly fell for it, thinking it was from the high court. Don’t be tricked. I just hung up, but they rang me back from 020 7947 7772 and 01453 000 000.

02079477772 just called me today with the same story, I almost fell for it. The guy said his name is Robin Patel, likely a fake name, and threatened me with court and arrest if I didn’t pay up. I picked up a call and an automated voice with an American accent started talking about an arrest warrant against me (no name mentioned or anything). At the end it told me to press 1, then a woman with an Indian accent answered but the line was so bad I couldn’t hear her properly, then the call dropped. Soon after, the same woman called back asking, “Can you hear me now?” I said yes and she asked for my full name. I replied “No, not yet, I don’t even know who you are,” and she just hung up on me right in the middle of what I was saying. Really strange. 😕

Got a call from John Martin ID 0429188 and Christopher Craig claiming to be from Queens Bench, trying to con me into handing over 25% of some "tax errors made by my accountant." They had heavy Asian accents and sounded like they were in a busy call centre, insisting I pay right away or face £30k in court fines. They threatened that the police would arrest me and bailiffs would show up at my house later that day. At first it sounded pretty legit since they had some info, but luckily I kept the call going while I quickly checked things online.

I just got a call from a bloke who sounded really scary, said he was from HMRC. He told me my employers hadn’t paid my taxes for 5 years and I needed to pay £1800 straight away or else I’d be arrested and my bank account frozen. He wanted my bank details but obviously I didn’t give them. He also said if I ended the call, it’d be too late and I’d get arrested. Watch out, folks!

I got calls from 02039971561 and they left a voicemail saying they were doing an investigation. Then later, someone called me from 02079477772 and told me about a tax issue and even mentioned jail if I didn’t pay up. I looked up the numbers on here and was really shocked - it’s all fake! It’s pretty scary and felt so real at first. Please be careful and always double-check who’s calling you!

Got a call at 10:38 this morning from 0203784657 claiming to be from HMRC. When I called back, a man named Henry Klien directed me to a senior tax officer called Simon Matthews (02079477772). The person who actually answered was Henry Klien. He gave me a badge number - 231998 - and a case number. They threatened I’d be arrested within two hours if I didn’t pay £5,000. He kept me on the line the whole time, not even letting me take a break. Told me to fib to the bank about why I was transferring money to an unknown account, and insisted on staying on the phone while I was at the bank.

Got a call on 23rd Nov from someone named Jonathan Higgins. It felt so real and honestly quite frightening. I told them to ring me back later, but while waiting I phoned HMRC myself and they confirmed I didn’t owe anything at all. The caller was threatening me with a £3989 payment or else I’d face court, which could cost me up to £40,000. Since then, I've had a couple more calls but now I've blocked the number.

I got a call from 02079477772 and spoke to a guy named John Martin who claimed to be from the courts, saying I owed £3986 in unpaid tax. He told me I had to pay £255 right away or they’d take legal action. Luckily my manager got involved, asked loads of questions, and then John just hung up. Definitely a scam, so watch out for this number!

This phone number is associated with a bunch of con artists who primarily engage in what’s often termed the 'HMRC scam.' As the title implies, they masquerade as officials from HMRC and attempt to intimidate individuals into believing they've committed a serious offence. Best to steer clear of them altogether!

I got a phone call too, saying I owed £3000 in unpaid taxes. They warned me that if I didn’t pay right away, the police would be at my door and I’d end up in custody for two days before a hearing. I nearly went to the bank to sort it out, but luckily the lady there felt something was off about the payment, and my husband also thought it sounded dodgy. Because of them, I didn’t end up losing that cash.

Got a call from +44 20 3350 1599, left a voicemail too. Also no caller ID on 0207 947 7774. It was one of those HMRC scams, they were threatening arrest over supposed tax issues from 2014 and 2019. They kept pushing that I owed nearly £3000 and said if I paid half now, the rest would be dropped. The fake officers called themselves Peter James and Andrew Lobo, both claiming to have official badge numbers. The voices sounded like Indian men and they sounded pretty convincing, but definitely a scam.

So today I got a call from 01615213245, someone pretending to be from HMRC and customs. They claimed I owe £32,000 and said I ignored an official letter they supposedly sent me. Then they demanded I pay at least £10,000 by tonight or the police would get involved, my bank account would be frozen and I’d be blacklisted. The background sounded like they were in a noisy café or something. After I hung up, I got two calls from 020 7947 7772 but I didn’t answer them. Total scam if you ask me.

Today I received a couple of calls and voicemails threatening me with jail time and saying they’d cancel my bank and credit cards over a tax debt of £2900. The whole thing was really disturbing. One call came from a London number and the other from Manchester, so I just blocked both straight away. When they started up, I told them I’d ring HMRC to verify everything, which got me off the line. Weirdly, they also claimed to be from the Queen’s bank or something like that 🤨.

Got a call from 02079477772 today, claiming I owed £4970 in back taxes and that there were some “serious” accusations against me. They said it was my responsibility to submit the right tax forms every year, which isn't true since I'm a teacher and my school handles that for me. I was trying to put our toddler down for a nap when I got the call, so I asked my husband to come home early from work to help. It's really unsettling because just yesterday I’d phoned HMRC to discuss my tax codes, so I naturally thought this call was linked to that. Absolute nightmare.

I got loads of calls from this number all in a row, saying I owe a huge amount and they were going to shut down my bank account. Scary thing is, they seemed to have my full name, where I live, and even my National Insurance number! No clue how they got that. I've reported it to HMRC because it felt really threatening. Honestly, just block the number and don’t share any details with them. This is seriously dodgy stuff!

Someone mentioned in a comment that this scam pretending to be from HMRC was reported to the police back on 24th June 2020. I personally got a call on 4th September 2020 and also made a report to Hertfordshire police. I got a voicemail from this number saying HMRC was trying to get in touch. When I rang back, they convinced me that bailiffs had been sent out by the courts to collect some unpaid tax and I had to pay straight away. They said I couldn’t use a card and had to send the money through a solicitor who would sort it with HMRC. I was nearly caught out but my daughter phoned me just in time and told me to end the call. About three quarters of an hour ago, I got a call from a lady speaking with an Indian accent who introduced herself as Officer Rachel Woods. She told me I was being investigated for tax fraud and evasion. She went on to say there was an arrest warrant out for me due to £3300 I supposedly owe. She warned that my bank accounts would be frozen, and my car and home were in danger, plus my passport and driving licence would be taken off me. Hey folks, the same thing happened to me. I ended up chatting with this guy who claimed to be Chris Martin, but with a weird Indian accent - obviously not the real deal, lol. He said I owed £4200 from way back, like 2014 to either 2018 or 2019. After he spent about ten minutes spouting nonsense, I told him I’d check with my accountant and then I was about to end the call.
