I received a call from a person claiming to be from HMRC at the number 020844403097. They requested that I press 1 to connect with them. This individual then proceeded to tell me that I owed money for tax evasion and claimed to be from HRMC. It took about 20 minutes for me to realize that something was suspicious, as there were inconsistencies in their story. To ensure my safety, I made the decision not to make any payments until I received an official letter from HRMC providing more information. When I expressed my unwillingness to pay, the caller threatened legal action and mentioned that I would end up in court. However, I decided to double-check the situation and logged into my HRMC account online, only to discover that it was indeed a scam. To contact HRMC directly, they provided me with the number 02079476000.

Got a call earlier claiming to be from HMRC, saying I've been involved in tax evasion and that there was a warrant out for my arrest. They told me I could either go to court or just pay up nearly £2000 to sort it all out. They gave me a name and case number, then told me to look up the number they were calling from to check if it was actually HMRC. Of course, it showed the right HMRC number, so they were spoofing it. Absolute scumbags - don’t get caught out by this!

Got a call today from someone pretending to be HMRC, saying I was involved in tax evasion and had a warrant out for my arrest. They threatened court unless I paid almost £2000 straight away. They gave me a name and case number, even told me to check their phone number online to make sure it was legit - which matched the real HMRC number, but obviously they were spoofing it. Absolutely disgusting scam, don’t get fooled by it!

We received a phone call requesting a payment of £5000. The caller threatened to freeze our passports and bank accounts and send someone to our house in order to arrest us. They claimed to have sent reminders, which we had not received. Suspicious of the situation, we decided to Google the number provided and called them back. We wanted to let them know that we were aware of their fraudulent activity and informed them that they were not in our house as they had falsely claimed. It's terrible that there are individuals out there who engage in such deceitful practices. To protect yourself, it is crucial not to make any payments in these situations.

TOTALLY A SCAM! I got two calls from these lot and a voicemail saying I owe £3792 in unpaid taxes and must pay immediately or they'll send me to court and I’ll get arrested. They said I got two letters and didn't respond within 60 days, so my time's up and I need to sort it quick to clear my name. My mate got a call from this number earlier and they were asking for almost £2,000. They even gave him some case numbers and had him, who’s usually pretty sensible, second guessing himself! They claimed there was a warrant for his arrest. Luckily, since this has happened to me before, I looked it up on this site and it turned out to be just another dodgy scam.

Got a call from this number today saying I had a warrant out for me and needed to pay £977 straight away to avoid court. They pushed me hard to pay right then and there, and I actually got caught out. Then they said the payment didn’t go through and urged me to use some app called Revolut to send the rest. After that, they messaged me on WhatsApp still badgering me for more cash. They asked for another £1967, which is when my bank stepped in and told me it was a scam. They explained HMRC never ring up about this kind of thing.

They offered me a couple of ways to pay some tax debt. One was to show up in court with a case number, or sort it out over the phone, saying the call was being recorded. They wouldn’t send me any documents in case I tried to flee or get arrested. The guy said his name was John, sounded Indian. Then he passed me onto a supervisor, a black woman. They warned they’d freeze my bank account if I didn’t comply. I’m about to start treatment for colon and lung cancer next week, already feeling overloaded with stress. :(

The number 02079476000 is registered to the Royal Courts of Justice, but there’s been a lot of scam calls pretending to be from them, usually from people claiming to be HMRC or other government bodies. If you get a call like this, don’t make any payments or give out info. Make sure to report it to Action Fraud and HMRC straight away.

Just got a call from two different numbers, first 02035736943 then another one ending in 6000. It was a bloke with an Indian accent telling me I owe them £1900! Didn’t buy it at all, and suddenly they went quiet and ended the call.

Got a call from this number 0207 947 600 with some bloke claiming I owed more than £2,000 and that there was a warrant out for my arrest. He was an Asian man and sounded pretty angry and upset. Luckily, my niece was nearby, grabbed the phone and gave him a proper piece of her mind. Really thankful she was around, and I doubt they’ll bother us again now.

I got a recorded call from 07167494484 saying I was involved in tax fraud and to press 1 to chat to an advisor. I pressed 1 and the bloke asked for my details but I didn’t give anything since he should already know my name if it’s HMRC. I asked for an official HMRC number and he gave me 02079476000, saying if I wasn’t convinced they’d call back straight away. They did call back from 02079476000, and it was the same guy, but he tried hard to sound more British. Be super careful and don’t share any personal info.

I'm in the same boat, really stressed out. They said I owe close to £2000. Couldn't afford it, so now there's a warrant for my home. I called some mates, completely scared, only to learn it was all a scam. Proper nightmare. Left feeling really shaken.

I got a call from 02079476000, some bloke with an Indian accent telling me I had to pay £600 straight away for a debt. I told him “I can’t afford that right now, can you send me something in writing?” Then he threatened to send the police! Seriously? The deadline’s not until 31 January, so leave me alone! Before that, I had a call from 01204604652. My English ain’t great, so I didn’t catch everything they said.

I got a call from 0203 520 3309 saying they were from HMRC but I knew right away it was a con because the bloke on the line had an Indian accent. I told him he should be ashamed for trying to fool innocent people and scare them. He then called me a load of rude names, so I just hung up. Right after that, the same number called again but from 0207 9470600 and the guy threatened to send “people round to F*** me” and warned me not to cry when it happened. Who's the best to report this to? I’m not easy to frighten but this sort of thing would terrify many others.

Somebody rang me claiming to be a police officer and asked if I was using my real name, but when I asked if they were legit police, they hung up straight away. I also got a call from 02039370701 earlier, saying they were from HMRC with an arrest warrant for tax fraud. That’s rubbish though, HMRC only ever calls about stuff you already know about like payment or debt. Both calls had people who sounded Indian or Pakistani and it really came across like it was from some call centre.

I got a call today from 02079476000. The guy said his name was Ivan and started threatening me about tax fraud, claiming he had a court warrant for me. He kept asking for personal info but I didn’t give him anything. I told him if he was legit, he should already have my details. Then he started saying he'd send the police to my house. He sounded like he was Indian or from a similar background. I asked if I could speak to someone British since I couldn’t understand him well, but he just hung up on me.

WAIT A MINUTE! Have a look at the HMRC note above the map. It looks like scammers are faking (copying/duplicating) this real HMRC number. I’d say don’t block the actual number just in case HMRC needs to get in touch with you later, but always apply common sense when you get cold calls. The rules are simple: never share any details about yourself, your personal info or account details and don’t agree to anything on the spot. If you reckon the call might be legit, hang up, make sure the line is clear, then ring them back on the number you already have saved.

On 5th November 2020, I got a call from 02079476000. The person on the phone claimed to be an HMRC lawyer, saying they were calling from the court. I looked up the number and it showed as a court number, so I was confused. They told me I owed £998 in tax and if I didn’t pay, I'd face penalties, and my driving licence, bank account, passport, and credit would all be blocked. It really frightened me. I ended up paying the money but later reported it to the fraud police, HMRC, the London court, and my bank. Unfortunately, I never heard anything back or saw any action taken.

They referred to me as a revolting individual! They exhibited extreme aggression when I exposed their deceit. They explicitly stated that they were recording our conversation as evidence for a potential court case if I did not comply with their demands. Two men of Indian descent contacted me, urging me to download the resolut app and make an immediate payment. They threatened that failure to do so would result in my arrest and separation from my infant child. A truly malicious individual indeed!
