Turns out, it wasn’t legit at all!

Got a call from someone claiming to be Ryan at British Gas, gave me my meter number, name and address which was kinda suspicious. When I told him I thought it was a scam, he transferred me to a "manager" who just repeated the same story about changing the meter for British Gas. I just ended the call right there.

It took forever before the guy with an Indian accent actually said something. He said he was ringing about our "gas and energy account," but when I mentioned we’d made it clear to our provider how they should reach us (though I didn’t bother saying that bit), he just guessed British Gas. I told him outright that British Gas isn’t our supplier and that I wasn’t interested in chatting, then I ended the call because it was obvious he was just going to keep jibber-jabbering.

Definitely sounded like a call centre. The guy was trying to set up a dental appointment for his daughter but kept saying her DOB was 1920. I asked him a few times to check and he got really annoyed, demanding why I kept asking since that would make his daughter ancient. Ended up just hanging up on him.
