I usually don't answer if the number looks unfamiliar. And if they don't bother leaving a message, I just don't bother calling back. Unless they try reaching me by another means, I just figure it's probably some sort of scam.

Some woman rang claiming to be from O2, seemed to have a strong Indian accent. While she was chatting, I got a couple of texts from the real O2 - one was a "Security Alert" and the other a code to access my O2 account. She kept trying to convince me that the second code was some kind of discount, which it definitely wasn’t. I kept her on the phone for as long as possible, but she ended up hanging up when I started reading the message out loud to her.

Absolutely a dodgy operation! They're masquerading as O2, luring you in with a tempting 40% discount. If you happen to receive such bothersome calls or texts, don’t hesitate to alert the Information Commissioner’s Office. They have the authority to impose fines on companies that flout the law. Since Monday they've been ringing me every day, different times each time. They seem to use a whole bunch of numbers, so when I block one, they just switch to a slightly different one. My phone flags the calls as 'possible scam', so I don't pick up. After seeing what others have said, I reckon these callers are not just annoying but actually quite risky and a real pain.
