I got this warning on my PC saying my IP had been involved in something dodgy and that Microsoft had locked my computer. It gave me a phone number, 020 4571 5233, supposedly to reach a Microsoft tech. When I called, it felt like I was put through to a busy call centre. The bloke I talked to introduced himself as Mark and had a thick Indian or South Asian accent. Then, out of nowhere, the call dropped. After a bit of digging online, I found loads of posts saying this Trojan alert is actually just a scam.

Just got a call from 0204 571 233, and I’m pretty sure it’s some sort of scam or dodgy number. Feels like a bunch of con artists trying to trick people. Watch out everyone!

some weird pop-up popped up on my screen saying my computer was locked and i had to call this number. they said they were from microsoft support or something, but it all sounded a bit dodgy to me.

So this lady with an American accent rang me up saying she was from Microsoft security. She told me not to turn off my laptop and to call a certain number because apparently there was a "trojan threat" on my system. I shut my laptop for about an hour, but when I turned it back on, the message that looked like it came from Microsoft was still there and I couldn’t get into anything. After closing it again for 20 minutes, I switched it on and everything worked fine, so I deleted the warning. Didn’t bother calling the number they gave me.
