Then I lost signal so couldn’t ask more. Sounds iffy to me, especially reading others’ experiences here. I’ve reported it to Ofcom via the 7726 spam service.

Totally a scam. Made me think of this YouTuber called Jim Browning who’s always catching these scammers out. Proper dodgy.

BEWARE OF SCAMS! I got a call that pretended to be from O2, promising me a fantastic discount on my contract along with an incredibly cheap deal on an iPhone 12 Pro at just £20 a month, thanks to COVID and being a loyal customer. I was taken in since it was right around my upgrade time, and O2 generally contacts me like clockwork when my contract is about to end. Even though their English was a bit off, they seemed really convincing. Regrettably, I ended up giving them my phone’s security code and answer. They swiftly went to work on changing my username, password, and email, all while claiming they needed to adjust my tariff-which, mind you, is completely unnecessary! The moment I started to feel uneasy and questioned them, they didn’t immediately hang up, which led me to think they might just be the real deal. In hindsight, it was likely a tactic to keep me chatting while they executed their plan. A word of caution: NEVER disclose your personal details over the phone if you get a call like this. O2 might ask for some verification, but that's only when you ring them first. I didn’t pay enough attention to the text messages that clearly stated this-what a mistake! Luckily, I managed to secure my account again by changing my username and password. I called O2 directly to ensure nothing had gone awry and was relieved to find that no suspicious transactions had taken place. However, I did receive an email about an item supposedly in my basket: an iPhone 13 Pro 512GB! Clearly, they were trying to order that for themselves and bill me. I hope sharing my experience helps someone else steer clear of these scams. I'm in my 20s, quite tech-savvy, and usually adept at spotting these tricks, but it can truly happen to anyone.
