I'm absolutely fed up with these incessant calls! They've managed to ring me seven times now, all from the same number: 02045204152. My phone seems to have a memory of this nuisance stemming from last year’s scams!

Somebody pretending to be from Virgin Media promotions called me. They already knew my name, number and network. They asked for my address saying it was to check if I could get a new deal. Sounded way too good to be true. When I asked them to just check on their system, they said they didn’t have access and needed my address to move the number and set up the deal. I asked them to prove who they were by confirming some parts of my password and then suddenly they just ended the call. Definitely fishy!

The noise in the background was quite intense, making it difficult to catch what he was saying. I was left hanging on the line in an awkward silence for ages, before I finally spoke up and said "silent call." That’s when a woman with a distinct Indian accent came on the line. She was trying to sell me an iPhone 13 Pro along with a data plan for £38 a month, claiming to be from mobilephonesdirect. Strangely enough, they didn’t even bother to check which network I was using, and I chose not to divulge that information either. When I mentioned the Telephone Preference Service and questioned how they managed to contact me while I'm registered on it, I pointed out that their call was quite literally illegal and that I had the right to report them for it.

I struggled to catch exactly what the caller was on about-if I'm not mistaken, she mentioned something along the lines of 'Curry's Mobile.' However, seeing as Curry’s isn’t a name that’s graced the high street for ages, perhaps it was a different outfit altogether. In any case, I had never crossed paths with them before, so I reckoned it must be yet another spammy outreach. They attempted the typical tactics of presenting questions in a manner that made it tricky to respond with a simple ‘No,’ but having worked in sales myself, I’m not easily fooled. I kindly conveyed that I had no clue who they were and promptly ended the call.

At present, it seems we've been inundated with a slew of typical scam calls. They appear to have no clue regarding your identity, yet they incessantly dangle the proverbial carrot of a 'fantastic' mobile phone deal. More often than not, they purport to be representatives of major mobile providers or even Carphone Warehouse. Best to immediately hang up and ensure the number is blocked!
