Got a call from this number around 10.30am today. I didn’t pick up but looked up the number, which was from a hidden landline. Sounds like one of those boiler scams to me - no way the government just rings out of nowhere about grants for replacing boilers. It seems like there's a machine out there randomly calling people in order to pick up on live lines. If you engage and say anything, it'll mark your number as being 'active' and a scammer will likely try to contact you again from another number later on! If a number pops up that you're unfamiliar with, keep your mouth shut and just listen in! If you don’t hear any chatter and suddenly the line goes silent, well done! You've successfully dodged a scammer! These types of calls can be quite bothersome and are often quite risky!

Basically, it’s an automated system going through numbers one by one to find active voice lines. Once you answer and say something, it flags your number as live, then the scammers ring you back from another number later on. If you get a call from an unknown number, don’t say anything, just listen carefully! If there’s silence and then the call ends, lucky you, you dodged a scam. These calls are really annoying and can be risky, so stay alert!
