Got a call from a supposed HMRC officer named Carol Jones claiming to be from their department. The message gave a number, 020 3964 2950, and warned me not to ignore it. She said if I or my lawyer didn't get in touch, there’d be serious legal trouble. Pretty dodgy if you ask me. Definitely don’t ring that number and make sure you report it to HMRC.

Today, I received a rather bizarre call from someone claiming to be from HMRC using this number. They insisted I had outstanding tax payments! Honestly, it’s ludicrous and almost certainly a scam.

This number called me saying I owed back taxes. They convinced me to sort a bogus appointment for tomorrow and wanted me to pay half (£2000) right away over the phone, with the rest due at the appointment. They’re pretty clever, even pretending to ring back from HMRC using a gadget that shows the actual 0345 HMRC number on your phone. When I asked for a direct extension so I could call them back, the guy just laughed and said “you won’t pay a penny, will you?” Total SCAM, be warned. I’ve blocked the number now.

After seeing the comments, I figured this was dodgy and gave the number a ring back. The bloke went on and on about some money I supposedly owed, but only let me speak at the end to ask anything. My caller ID flagged this number as possibly fraudulent, so I didn’t pick up. Just a few minutes afterwards, I got a message from what sounded like an automated voice. The audio was really poor and hard to understand, but I definitely caught phrases like “legal action” and “please call us back.” I reckon the bad sound is on purpose to trick people into ringing them back for more info.
