He insisted his system didn’t show that and then mentioned we hadn’t made any claims in the past two years. I told him he was wrong about that, and then he just abruptly ended the call.

Got a call from someone with an Asian accent the other day. They asked if I knew I could get free loft insulation. Claimed it was some new thing and even though I don’t get benefits, I was supposed to qualify. They said someone from ‘I energy’ would get in touch, and the password was Blue. Bit odd, right?! I received a call from a man who spoke with an Asian accent, asking if we had any old storage heaters since there was a grant available to swap them out. I said we weren't interested and ended the call. That same number kept ringing back, about ten times, but I just ignored it. Then, they left around five messages on the answerphone, asking for Mr followed by my partner’s first name (not his surname) claiming to be from the local NHS. The messages said a male family member had died and urged us to get in touch on a local number. Problem was, the number actually belonged to a nearby accountancy firm. What this creep was trying to pull, I have no idea!

Got a call about loft insulation, told them I wasn’t interested. Then they rang back about ten mins later, still on the same pitch, so I asked to be taken off their calling list. They called again! This time they asked for my husband, I said no again. After that, the guy started sounding quite rude and pushy. Eventually, he claimed to be a doctor from a hospital with urgent info about my husband that he needed to discuss directly. The caller was really aggressive and even slammed the phone down on me! Honestly, I hope no senior gets tricked by this awful scammer.

Got a call from this number earlier today but thanks to my call blocking phone (love it!) they never got through since they wouldn’t say who they were when asked. Used to log every single one with the ICO ages ago. Even though I’m on the TPS and my number’s unlisted, I still used to get loads. A bloke called, knew my name and where I lived. He started asking about how old my boiler was. I told him if he thought his mum would be chuffed with him trying to rip folks off. Then he just dropped the call.

Then when I switched on my voicemail, there was a message from someone claiming to be with a National Health Trust - which I've never heard of and somehow had the name of our village in it. They said a relative of mine had been in some accident and told me to get in touch with the trust's doctor. Pretty sure they're just hoping I’d ring them back, but no chance I'm giving them that satisfaction!

Usually, the call just drops with nobody answering, or if you get someone, they hang up as soon as you start grilling them. Today, the first ring was a bit different. I decided to mess about and actually chat with them, and surprisingly they played along, but this time I set the pace. Got bored and ended the call, then five minutes later I get another ring, but there was nothing but silence before it cut out. Seems like they didn’t enjoy being on the receiving end. My advice? Don’t let these idiots get to you. If you want a laugh, try having a silly chat your way, or tell them you’re fetching the person they want and just leave them hanging while you crack on with your day. Or better yet, put a loud whistle by the phone and give them a shock with an unexpected screech!

I told her it sounded like a scam and she started arguing back.
