I got a call from a really polite woman who was offering a service to cut down on unwanted phone calls - something I’d been thinking about for a while. She said there'd be a one-time fee of £195, and I agreed. But then, my bank rang me to warn that someone tried to take £150 from my card. Thankfully, I stopped the transaction just in time. What’s odd is that the caller hasn’t followed up or reached out after the payment was blocked. Nearly got caught out by what feels like a scam, so be careful and don’t make the same mistake.

Got loads of bother from scammers callin' me - this time a bloke named Alaister poppin' up, talkin' like he's from CTR consultants or somethin'. The Scots accent makes it sound proper genuine, but it's all just a trick. Wish there was a way to block these lot properly, they really just target old folk and it’s awful. They need to find something better to do with their time.

I’m employed by the council and can say for certain that any changes to council tax bands are only processed if you apply in writing. Please don’t give out any info to these people. What’s worrying is they seem to know personal information, like one lady they called had recently lost her husband and was quite distressed. Just to be clear - THESE CALLS ARE FAKE!

The call seemed pretty legit (as you'd expect), came from some valuation company claiming our house had been misclassified in the council tax band for ages. They said we might be owed a £3000 refund, which sounds great.
