Meanwhile, the only ones raking in the profits are the telecom providers, who seem to do nothing whatsoever to curb this tide of dishonesty, all while pocketing hefty sums from the distress of everyday folks. It’s all supported by the current government, which, let’s face it, leaves much to be desired in terms of integrity.

BT Call-guardian didn’t block the call, and the person on the line claimed to be from Home Services UK. The woman said I had some kind of insurance with them for our appliances. She already knew my last name, address, and of course, my phone number. As she started running through my information, I told her most of it was wrong. When she asked about my car details, I said I needed to find my cards and put the phone down near the radio. After about 20 minutes of just hearing Radio 2, she finally hung up.

I got a call today from a woman with an Asian accent who asked for me by name. She said since I supposedly use their service to cover all my home electrical gadgets, if I were to pay my next premium for two years at once, they'd throw in an extra year's coverage for free. When I asked which company she was from, she just clammed up and wouldn't say. The details she gave didn’t add up, so I just hung up. Feels like a total scam to me.

My mum, who's quite elderly, got caught out by this scam. She handed over her card info thinking it was legit. Luckily, her bank spotted it quickly and blocked the card, sending her a replacement. Then the scammers called back the next day, trying to chat her up again. Seriously, be careful and just hang up if you get a suspicious call like this!

Got a call from some home appliance insurance company. The bloke had a really thick accent which made it tricky to catch what he was saying. He was trying to get me to renew some sort of cover for appliances, apparently after two years had passed. I told him I definitely don’t have any policy with them. She already had my name and where I live, but I told her I had no clue about any deal like that and wasn’t about to share my payment details. When I asked for a website so I could check them out, she couldn’t give me one, just said they were based in Portsmouth. Did some digging myself afterwards but couldn’t find anything like that company online. So yeah, ended the call pretty quick.

When I refused to give it to them, they accused me of being rude!
