this number just rang me up earlier, with a lady claiming she was from alzheimer scotland. I sometimes help out with their fundraising. I was driving when she called but, even though I was on hands-free, she said their rules don’t allow chatting to anyone behind the wheel. she said she'd ring back tomorrow instead. but after checking online and seeing this number linked to loads of different charities, I’m not too keen on picking up again!

I sent £5 via text to a charity on TV and shortly after began getting these annoying calls. I guess I’ll be more careful in the future. I don’t mind fundraising being proactive but surely they could just send a letter instead? - caller: Fundraising

These agencies exist to boost the original gift. Yes, it can be a bit frustrating, but if you keep calm and say no politely, the call usually ends on a friendly note. If you’re not in the mood for more donations, just say you’d rather not continue and they’ll stop the call. Honestly, getting a call like that means you’ve done something good. It might feel a little cheeky, but it’s all about gathering a bit more cash to pay for crucial stuff like vaccines or mosquito nets. The last time I missed one was probably a follow-up for UNICEF, since I’d sent two text donations for their vaccine drive recently. So yes, I might get a tiresome call here and there, but when I think of a small kid struggling in terrible conditions, it’s no big deal. Just take it easy, say no if you want, and hats off for your generous donations!

They've rung me twice in just a few days! I do give to charity when I’m able, but I won’t be doing it anymore since it’s clear these charities are passing on info to companies that just hound you for monthly donations, making money by guilt-tripping anyone who donates. I've received numerous calls from this number, claiming to represent the Teenage Cancer Trust. They’ve been bombarding me with at least four calls daily since last week, despite my clear indication that I wasn’t interested in speaking further. It's quite frustrating, especially as they seem to think that calling me at unsociable hours is acceptable. I did make a donation previously, but I absolutely refuse to be pressured into contributing again. This relentless pestering is really unwelcome!

This number kept ringing me up loads of times, it’s from some firm called "Listen" who work with charities, trying to encourage one-time donors to give more. What really got to me was the fact they’d phone at all hours, even anti-social times! If you want to stop them bothering you, you have to ring 03330110023 to get taken off their list. I got a call from Sue Ryder thanking me for regularly giving to their shop, which i do. They asked why i donate and then tried to get me to pledge £12 each month to help with their staff costs. When i said i couldn’t manage that amount, they lowered it to £6 a month. If they ring again, i’ll probably just send stuff to a different charity shop instead.
