Seems like they're trying to get me to sign up for monthly payments but when I donated over the phone, there was no clear GDPR info upfront about my details being stored and that they’d call me all the time. Up until now, I’d never had any pestering calls on my mobile, but today I got a call from a debt collection agency - luckily I missed it, but I can’t help thinking the two are linked and maybe UNICEF shared my details. Unfortunately, I also sent a donation by text to UNICEF after seeing an appeal on telly, and even though they said clearly they wouldn’t get in touch again, they’ve been ringing me from this number. I’ve also got texts asking for a monthly £3 now, so I suppose I need to watch that as their word clearly means nothing. It feels really unfair. I’ve blocked the number and won’t be donating by text anymore, definitely not to UNICEF, and I’ll stick to supporting my local charities instead.

I sent a donation by text after watching a report about kids struggling in Yemen on the telly. It said there’d be no calls after donating, but this number rang me today anyway. I always look it up here before picking up, just in case it’s some sales call. Glad I checked. Feels like the money I gave is just being used to pay people to bug supporters for more cash. UNICEF must shell out a LOT of money to these callers who keep ringing up donors and simply won’t accept a no. They’re super pushy and clearly trained to irritate people - it’s near impossible to stay polite when you’re basically being harassed. In one of their chats from this same number, they mentioned the company gets about £50,000 from UNICEF “to generate donations” - seriously, who’d pay that much for a bunch of annoying phone calls? It really puts me off. I’m NEVER donating to UNICEF again.
