Loads of charities hire call centres to try and get donations, but the staff there often push way too hard. It’s really unfair on folks on tight budgets or older people who might feel trapped and end up pledging more than they can really afford just to stop the calls. If you want to donate, it’s definitely better to give straight to the charity rather than through these middlemen who take a cut of your gift. Honestly, my advice is to just hang up if you get an unexpected call asking for donations.

Got another call from them less than half an hour after the first, even though they said they just dial random local numbers. The person claimed to be from some research firm asking about voting patterns. She never asked for my name, just said they pull details from public commercial databases. I told her I’m ex-directory and signed up with the TPS, but she reckoned that doesn’t matter since they use publicly available info? Then she tried to get me to verify names of other people they supposedly have on record, which I thought was meant to be banned now. Bit shady if you ask me.
