He claimed he was reaching out from a company named Acquire, supposedly connected to education, and mentioned that they noticed I had been searching for job opportunities. I get calls from this number a couple of times daily, usually around lunch and then again late afternoon. I’ve ended up blocking it so it doesn’t keep ringing me. I had the same hassle before with Orange (EE), loads of calls till I blocked them. Honestly, wouldn’t it be better if they just donated whatever they’re spending on these calls straight to the NEPAL Appeal instead of annoying people on their mobiles? Makes no sense to me!

So, UNICEF took money from my card for a donation without asking properly, then kept ringing me non-stop at work until I actually answered. They wanted me to sign up for a monthly gift, which I just can’t afford right now. I’m really annoyed they used that as a reason to keep calling me without my say-so, and it bugs me that some of what I gave probably ends up paying a call centre!

For the past four days, they’ve been calling me at exactly the same time each afternoon. Unfortunately, I’m unable to pick up between 12 and 2pm because I’m working. I had just sent a donation to UNICEF via text, so I’m guessing it's them ringing. Apparently, you can stop the calls by texting NOCALL to 70007, though it’s at your usual text rate. Haven’t tried it out yet to see if it actually does the trick.

I had the exact same phone call like loads of others. Just download an app called Truecaller (its free) and it’ll block that number for you. It even tells you if it’s a scam before you answer. So frustrating! Also, I didn’t realise before but apparently Unicef is supposed to be a charity, not some business. Have a look how much the boss took home in bonuses last year, all while they’re asking for donations for kids in need.
