Today I got three calls and one voicemail from someone saying they were Sharon Wilson at HMRC. I looked her up on LinkedIn and there is a Sharon Wilson there, but I’m pretty sure this is a fake account. In the message, she warned me about supposed legal action if I don’t ring them back. Felt really dodgy and a bit scary to be honest.

You should definitely report this number to the TPS and Information Commissioner's Office. These cold callers are nothing but fraudsters and ought to be stopped, maybe even fined or shut down completely.

Got a dodgy email from 'HMRC' saying I’m owed cash, and now they’re ringing my mobile. Tried calling back from my work line since my number’s hidden, got some weird international dial tone and then a robotic “Thanks for calling HMRC, how can I help?” voice. Honestly thinking of ringing them like ten times today just to mess about. Absolute muppets, every single one.

I got a call from this number a few times today. When I finally picked up the third call, a woman who said her name was Sarah from HMRC left a voicemail, telling me to ring back urgently. The message had a time stamp on it too. But she sounded American, which made me suspicious straight away. I just ended up hanging up and blocked the number after that. Definitely felt like a scam to me.

Complete rip-off. HMRC don’t phone you directly asking for details about your solicitor. They usually get in touch through letters or reach out to your accountant instead.

The message was some kind of automated warning saying it’s from HMRC, and if I don’t get back to them or talk to a solicitor, there will be consequences. Got a dodgy call from some American sounding robot saying it was HM Revenue and Customs. The message was all threatening, like "You gotta act now as soon as you get this." I just hung up straight away, blocked the number and messaged some mates to warn them it's a scam.

Lately, I've been bombarded with fake emails pretending to be HMRC, so it wouldn't surprise me if this is part of a similar scam. I'm starting to get these calls as well now. I always report any suspicious emails to HMRC, and they do seem to investigate each one. It's really awful that these scams are still happening - one day, they might target someone who doesn't know better :-(
