I ended up on this site after a legit looking webpage told me a robot voice detected a virus and told me to ring the provided number straight away. As my device was frozen, I rebooted it and went here to warn others. This looks just like the classic microsoft virus scam. Don’t get tricked by it. Stay clear of the 10 things site as it often links to these kinds of dodgy scams. Cheers.

I got a sudden message popping up on my computer saying I needed to ring a certain number right away because my device was supposedly infected and my personal info might be at risk. There was also a voice coming through the speakers saying my internet provider and where I lived, which I guess they figured out from my IP or something. The whole thing had loads of bright, flashing colours and wasn't very believable at all. Still, it was quite a nervewracking experience!

Sounds like one of those dodgy virus warnings like people have mentioned already.

try pressing ctrl-alt-del then look for microsoft edge down under the processes section (just below apps) and hit end task there. this normally closes the tab instead of shutting the entire browser, and helps unfreeze edge. not sure if it can leave any malware on your computer tho. i haven’t noticed anything weird on mine but it’s a good idea to do a scan before and after rebooting your pc just to be safe.

My computer froze up and the screen popped up telling me to ring this number for a virus fix. Don’t bother calling - just reboot your machine and run a scan with Malwarebytes or something like that.

My computer suddenly showed a message and a voice warning me about a virus and told me to ring a certain number. I'm not great with tech stuff but decided to look up the number first, luckily I found out it was a scam. I've now shut my computer down and plan to run a virus scan to be safe. Do yourselves a favour and don’t ever call that number!

I got a voice message saying there was an issue and it even locked my laptop. Thankfully, I managed to reboot it and run a virus scan. Turns out, it’s all just a scam.

Had a similar experience like some others here. Got a robotic voice telling me my computer was infected with a virus and mentioning my local area, telling me to call this so-called "Microsoft" number. The voice and the popup wouldn't go away, so I had to force shut the PC down. Later, I looked up the number and it was definitely a scam. When I restarted the computer, everything seemed okay, but I went ahead and deleted my Chrome browsing history just to be safe.

Just got hit by one of those fake virus alert pages. Don’t ring the number they show. Best thing to do is shut the browser and reboot your PC. Also, I’d run an antivirus scan and maybe a malware remover just to be safe.

Just got a call from a sketchy page saying my computer has a virus - total scam!

I’m not very good with computers but here’s what happened to me. Some company pretending to be tech support blocked my screen, saying my computer was full of viruses and telling me to ring this number for help. I called and followed their instructions, but after a while, they hit me with a bill for fixing the locked screen and boosting my computer’s speed. Everyone I spoke to sounded Asian. It felt like a scam to me - I was careful not to share any bank info. Now I’m planning to get my laptop cleaned up and reinstalled properly. Luckily, I didn’t have anything too sensitive on it, but they did manage to take over my PC during the whole thing before the fake charges came up. Be careful - this sort of thing definitely seems dodgy!

My laptop's Google Chrome started freezing all the time, but strangely it was just that browser. A message popped up telling me to ring 0238050592 to speak with a Microsoft tech, which sounded a bit fishy. So I grabbed my phone and looked up the number in Chrome, and sure enough, it was dodgy. I rebooted my laptop a few times, hoping it’d fix things, but the freezing kept happening whenever I opened Chrome. After scanning with my antivirus multiple times with no luck, I decided to uninstall Chrome entirely, and that finally sorted the issue.
