I recently received a call from the number 020 3790 3639. When I picked up, I was greeted by a robotic voice rambling on about potential arrest and a magistrate court. It prompted me to press 1 for further clarification, which I foolishly did, and was connected to a chap with a thick Indian accent. When I queried him about what this was regarding and the name of the organisation he represented, he was hesitant at first. Eventually, he claimed to be from the government and when I pressed for specifics, he mentioned HMRC. Quite clearly, something smelled fishy! So, I ended the conversation.

It instructed me to press 1 for further details if I wished to avoid any trouble, so I complied. To my surprise, I was connected to a chap with an Indian accent. I inquired about the nature of the call and the name of his organisation, but he insisted there was no company associated with it. When I pointed out that he had called me, he rudely dismissed me, claiming there was no company and promptly hung up. Quite the experience, I must say!
