OptonTelecom claimed they were setting up a service to block scam calls. What a load of rubbish! They kept saying it was to help older folks and wouldn’t take no for an answer. I asked if there was a fee and they started quoting prices like £129 and £99. When I told them I wasn’t willing to pay for something I didn’t want, they quickly wanted to end the call.

This number and the firm behind it defo need to be reported to the authorities. Just google 'action fraud,' then click on the 'police.uk' website and find the 'reporting' area. If you didn’t get tricked, report it as a phishing attempt - no need to sign up. If someone got scammed, report it as a crime. Afterwards, come back here and share your experience to alert others. It’s the best way to stop these fraudsters.

Had a call from OPTON Telecom, they were trying to con my elderly mum into switching her phone service. When I contacted BT, these scammers kept phoning back three times to convince us they were genuine. It really winds me up how these crooks use fancy sales tactics and tech to trick older folks into signing up for stuff they neither get nor want.

This firm is honestly just a rip-off, targeting older folks who might not be as sharp. Once they get your bank details, good luck getting them to close your account - they just keep charging you. Even if you try to stop the direct debit, they somehow manage to put it back on. I don’t get why Ofcom haven’t stepped in yet to sort this out.

Someone rang us up offering cheap landline rental, I asked them to send me their site and it looked really dodgy, optontelecom[###]. If these guys aren’t a con, I doubt they’ll be around for much longer.

I had a pretty much the same thing happen to me too, the caller said they were from some name opton or whatever. The number was 0203954629981 which seemed a bit weird. I'm registered on TPS as well. Luckily, I got the call barring set up through Talk Talk and that’s been quite handy.

Got a call from this number and the bloke on the phone had quite a strong African accent. He was trying to convince me he was ringing from Openreach, claiming I could save money by putting all my phone bills into one. I told him I wasn't bothered and just ended the call. He rang a couple more times after that but I ignored them. What worried me was he seemed to know quite a bit about us - our name on the phone account, the address and all that. Bit creepy to be honest.

Got a ring from this number once more today, bloke said he was with BT and wanted to verify my billing info to help me cut costs. Didn’t bother chatting, just ended the call. It's crazy how the 'officials' must know about this number being used over and over yet don't do jack all about it.

Got a call from this number earlier, the bloke said he could cut down my BT landline bills. He spoke with a thick Indian accent and it was really hard to follow what he was trying to say. When I told him I couldn’t get what he meant, he just hung up on me.

Got a call from an Asian lady (sounded like some call centre) but couldnt make out what she was saying at all. Pretty sure they called me previously too but the line just cut off.

Got a call from an Asian lady claiming to be from Ofcom, offering to lower my bills. Could tell straight away it was a scam. I told her to quit wasting both her time and mine, and that she was breaking the law by ringing a number protected by the TPS.

Got a call from an Asian bloke who said he was with (I think) Offcom and Openreach, telling me I could get a discount on my line rental. He even used my name and rang me on my own number. Ended up hanging up on him. What puzzled me was that we’d just had some work done by Openreach not long ago.

Got a call from an Asian guy who used my name and claimed he was ringing from OPTON Telecom, though he sounded more like he was from Ofcom. He told me I was the one responsible for paying the bill on our landline and even mentioned our number. When I told him I wasn’t the bill payer, he just hung up on me! This is the third time this week they’ve called. We’re also registered on the TPA list.

Today, I got a call from someone saying they were with BT OpenReach. After I managed to interrupt and said I wasn't interested, the bloke got really annoyed, asking why I kept him talking for so long. I tried ringing the number back but all I heard was a weird high-pitched sound. Honestly, I’m glad I spoke up before hanging up on him. Normally, I’m pretty calm but this one really got me frustrated. Plus, I’m not in great health at the moment, so I really don’t need this kind of hassle.

A guy with an Asian accent called claiming he was from Ofcom and said he could cut our phone rental charges. He went on about call fees for landlines and mobiles if we signed up then and there.
