got a call today from someone sayin they were from “lloyds”, wanting to have a look over my life insurance. i said no thanks, not interested, and he then rattled on about some new rule called the ‘european gender directive’ and claimed my payments could drop. i told him again i wasn’t interested and he just hung up on me! i blocked the number quick, but should’ve asked how they got my info - mentioning the ‘data protection act’ and ‘information commissioner’ usually puts them on the back foot!

They phone my mum daily since she’s got my old phone. When they asked for my new number, she didn’t give it and just hung up. Then they called back threatening to keep ringing her all the time unless she gives it to them. And they actually do ring her non stop! Ever tried messing about with those calls? I do, just to see what nonsense they come up with. Once a caller said something daft about an accident claim - started talking about how they’d supposedly lost their head in a car crash! Surprisingly, the chat kept going! It’s really just a sales tactic they’re running, right? They’re desperate to close deals, so if you drag those calls out for ages talking rubbish, it probably kills their numbers. Trust me, after a couple of long pointless chats, they usually don’t bother ringing back!

Thing is, 1) I don’t have any life insurance at all, and 2) they addressed me by my maiden name even though I’ve been married for 4 years now. When I told them I didn’t have any policy with them, they insisted they were partnered with my insurer. I got the feeling she wasn’t being straight with me, so I just hung up on her.

Loads of these calls are definitely from scammers, so I'd advise not answering or calling back. Some even try to steal credit from your phone. Legit companies NEVER ask for bank info over the phone - it's just not done! Usually, they'll only ask for basic info like your name, DOB, and sort code if anything at all. So yeah, be careful and just ignore any calls from numbers you don’t recognise or haven’t saved. Easy as that.

Every day I get calls from either PPI places or mobile networks. Now, they’re even asking if I’ve flown anytime in the last six years and if my flight was delayed by over three hours - apparently, I can claim compensation?
