Someone called saying they were from Car Phone Warehouse working with my phone provider, offering to send me an iPhone 13. I refused to share my info when they then asked for my email and address. So I ended the call and looked up the number, which led me straight to this site.

Some bloke said he was from the government and that I was wanted for tax evasion, saying if I ended the call, I’d be arrested straight away.

I was proper freaked out and honestly quite worried when a recorded voice said my name was linked to some tax dodging and if I didn’t press one, I’d get a warrant and be nicked by the Home Office soon. I rang this number and the woman who picked up said her name was Sophie Bradford and claimed she owned a flat in Wimbledon, London. I didn’t realise it was a scam at the time and ended up agreeing to rent the place, paid a deposit too. She said she was an AIRBNB host and even sent me a link to her profile, which seemed legit.

Got an automated call claiming to be from HMRC saying I’m involved in a tax fraud case. It told me to press 1 to speak to someone, but when I did, it just put me on hold with some music playing. I was nervous the call might end up costing loads. Something about the whole thing felt off - the weird accent on the automated voice and just how unlikely it is that HMRC would get in touch like this.

Just got a call from some company I’ve never heard of, right as I’m writing this. They said I’d entered a competition to win an iPhone 7, which is totally nonsense because the only thing I do online is chat with clients and business contacts. This number is definitely making annoying calls. Also, the caller wasn’t even from the UK, sounded like they were from South Africa. If you get calls like this over and over, keep a record of what they say and report it to the cops straight away, they’re probably just wasting your time.

A chap rang up asking to speak with my sister, whom we'll refer to as "Libby". I picked up the call, and he kept insisting, "Could I speak to Libby, please?" It was rather peculiar. Received a call asking for an Alan - my name's John, by the way. I informed the caller that I wasn’t the chap they were after, and then they launched into a rather lengthy pitch about how this number had been entered into some competition. Apparently, I’ve won ten free lines on the lottery, and would I like to seize this wonderful opportunity? Quite amusing, considering they clearly dialled the wrong person, so poor Alan misses out on his prize. I eventually said I wasn’t interested and ended the call, but this was the second time I've had such a call; my husband answered the first. If the experiences of others are anything to go by, I can expect a few more of these delightful interruptions in the future!

Next thing I know, they’re pushing me to set up a direct debit for a monthly fee of £39.99. The chap even had the audacity to ask for my bank account number and sort code! I firmly shot him down, despite his persistent hounding. Honestly, folks, be wary of this-never, under any circumstances, share your banking info over the phone!
