Several people confirmed no real tax issues with HMRC after hanging up. The callers also got evasive when asked for details and sometimes threatened police involvement. Many left voicemails about lawsuits that turned out fraudulent. Overall, itβs consistently linked to attempts to frighten or trick people, mainly pensioners or those unfamiliar with tax procedures, into giving sensitive info or payment. Avoid and remain cautious.

9 yearsOn the 7th of June, this number rang my mum. They claimed she owed tax, which was laughable since she's a retired lady with no savings and hasn’t paid tax in ages. Of course, mum started questioning them and quickly got annoyed. She even told them she’d contact the police, but they brushed it off, saying the police would get involved if she didn’t settle the tax. When mum asked for their full name, they dodged the question. She realised pretty quickly it was a scam and gave them a piece of her mind! Believe me, she wasn’t exactly polite about it.9 yearsGot a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, saying I was in trouble and could face legal consequences.
