Got a call from a number at about 3:23pm. The guy said he found my number in his phone history and had looked me up on social media. Then he mentioned something about his "girlfriend" telling me to stop, which confused me. I replied, "Wait, you want me to stop my photography? That's pretty cheeky of you, mate!" and then he just hung up. These calls are just nasty and freak people out. They seriously need to quit it.

Got a call this mornin’ and when I picked up, an automated voice started saying it was urgent and that HMRC were trying to reach me ‘cause of a lawsuit. They told me to press 1 or 3. I just hung up. Tried callin’ back the number and it said it couldn’t connect. Spoke to HMRC myself and they said they only contact people by letter, never by phone. Total scam, pure nonsense. Big thanks to this site for letting us check these numbers and share what’s goin’ on - that message really made me worried at first.

This number called my dad earlier today and shook him up quite a bit. A woman on the line was threatening legal action against him! He’s 84 for goodness’ sake! I’m absolutely livid. I tried ringing back but all I got was a message saying the number isn’t available. Shame, I really wanted a word with them. These sorts of people should be put to an end. Proper scumbags!

Last night, I received a rather alarming call, where a robotic female voice warned that some sort of action was being taken against me. I was quite unsettled. Today, I had a chat with an older family member who informed me that she too had received a similar call this morning, and she was quite shaken by it. I feel a sense of relief to discover that it's just a scam, so I can now put her mind at ease.

Had the same thing happen to me, but I’m currently dealing with HMRC about some back taxes, so at first I fell for it and pressed option one. Weirdly, they already had my address and postcode (no idea how). I ended up being daft and gave them my date of birth before I realised it was dodgy and hung up. Not happy that they’ve now got some of my personal info.

Just got a call from this number. I pressed 1 and a woman answered saying, "Hello, how can I assist you?" I told her she just called me, but she insisted I had called her first. I said no, you rang me and I pressed 1. Then she asked if I was Mrs XXXX, and I said no, you've reached HMRC's FRAUD team, and she hung up. When I checked the call, my phone company charged me for making the call. BEWARE folks, this number is a scam pretending to be HMRC, and you WILL get charged for pressing 1.

Got a call this morning from an automated voice saying HMRC had been trying to contact me about a lawsuit. It told me to press 1, which I did, then some strange foreign voice started talking like an officer, so I just hung up. I haven't had any issues with HMRC before. Figured it was a scam, so I dialled 1471 to check the number - 02034882506. After a quick search, loads of people reported dodgy experiences. Definitely sketchy.

I received a phone call today, and my husband ended up chatting with a chap who had quite a heavy Indian accent. He claimed to represent HMRC and was alarmingly persuasive, rattling off personal details - including his national insurance number! They asserted there was an arrest warrant out for him due to an alleged debt of £1987, throwing around all sorts of intimidating threats. However, as soon as he mentioned he would ring our local HMRC office to verify, they promptly hung up.

The caller claimed to be from Customs and Excise, saying I had a court case against me and told me to press one to talk to my case officer. It was a recorded message. Because they never said who they were trying to reach, I just ended the call and looked up the number afterwards.

Yet another pesky scammer is at it again! They’re pretending to be from HMRC, claiming they’re taking legal action against you.
It’s appalling to think how this could send shivers down the spine of the older folks or those who aren’t tech-savvy. It baffles me that, given the advancements in technology today, we can’t find a way to put a stop to these outrageous calls!

I didn’t pick up but they left a voicemail about some case number and told me to call them back right away and press option 1. After watching Rip Off Britain Live last week, I figured it must be a scam, so I just deleted the message and didn’t bother returning the call.

Got a call from this number today saying HMRC is going to take legal action against me for unpaid taxes. I hung up straight away because HMRC always sends letters, they don’t call. This is definitely a scam. I’ve reported it to the local police, hoping they can trace the number and catch these scammers so they might get prosecuted.

I got a robo call saying it was HMRC and they were suing me, telling me to press 1 to talk to someone about my case. It really stressed me out as I care for my elderly parents. I searched the number on Google and I'm grateful to have found all the warnings about this being a scam. Its terrible because older folks might fall for it and think its legit. This kind of scam needs to be put to an end.

I received a call that mirrored yours, and honestly, it's appalling that they pull stunts like this. I decided to give the number a bell, and a person with an accent that sounded foreign answered the phone, claiming to be from "HMRC." When I mentioned that I had missed a call from them, they promptly cut me off. It's baffling what they gain from these shifty calls, isn’t it?

I just got a call from a proper rude woman claiming I owed taxes. When I asked her to send the details in writing, she told me to rot in prison! I never share my personal info on calls, but the weird part is she already had my name, address, and postcode.

I got a call from someone saying they were HMRC and to press 1. When I did, a woman with a foreign accent asked for my name. I told her I didn’t want to give it since they called me, they should already know it. Then they mentioned my mum’s name. I told them she’s really poorly with terrible dementia and not able to manage anything. They still wanted to talk to her. I explained she couldn’t even speak as she was seriously unwell and near the end, then they just cut the call.

This number rang me as well. They said I was about to get a fine from the tax office. Press 1 to speak with your officer. The person on the phone, who sounded Asian, called herself Mary Jones. When I asked her to say her name again and give me a call-back number, she just went "oh come on, you reckon this is a con? Like anyone would try scamming the tax people." I told her she was a total [email protected]#%&%d and ended the call.

Received a call from this number earlier today, claiming it was HMRC and that there was a case being brought against me. They instructed me to hit 1, so I obliged. However, when the lady on the other end asked how she could assist, I simply replied that they had called me first, and she promptly hung up. Clearly a scam! I only pressed 1 because I'm self-employed and manage my own VAT. Definitely dodgy behaviour here!

Just got a call from this number telling me we were facing legal action, clearly a scam. It’s really scary though, especially for older folks. Definitely going to report it.

Said they were from HMRC, was proper scary, something has to be done about this, warned I could go to jail for unpaid tax. Scammers like this are the worst, don’t fall for it!

Got a robotic call saying it was from HMRC about some sort of legal trouble. They told me to press 1 to chat with someone. Then I got connected to a guy who spoke really bad English and wanted his NHI number. When my husband asked why they needed that since they’d called him, they just hung up straight away.

Received a phone call claiming to be from HMRC. I refused to reveal any personal information, despite their persistent requests. The caller had a notably thick Indian accent. I told them outright that I believed it was a scam and promptly ended the call.

Received a rather alarming call from this number claiming that HMRC had issued a writ in my name. Strange, though, they abruptly hung up mid-conversation. I decided to check using 1471, and this number popped up. I didn’t bother returning the call, as I’m fairly certain it’s not the official HMRC line.

This morning, I received a rather peculiar call from the same number yet again. Upon picking up, I was greeted by someone with an accent that could only be described as Indian, or perhaps Welsh? The chap introduced himself as part of HMRC customs and asked how he could assist. I couldn't help but question the absurdity, replying, "How on earth can I assist you when it’s you who made the call?" To my surprise, he promptly ended the conversation. It’s rather unsettling, especially since I’ve recently been issued a fine by the court. I can’t shake the feeling of unease, wondering if my private details have been accessed through what I imagine to be a rather dodgy system!

I've already flagged this as a scam before. The lady said she was from HMRC, so I looked it up on their official site and then reported the call as phishing on the Action Fraud site. I'd advise others to do this too. You can get the details from the HMRC contact page on their website.

Got a robocall claiming HMRC have legal action against me, asked me to press 1 and then it switched me to an overseas line with really poor connection. The caller was looking for a woman who apparently keeps getting calls like this. After I got a bit annoyed, they just hung up on me. When I tried calling back, it went to a voicemail that was full. Totally a scam, so don’t fall for it.

23/05/17. Got a call supposedly from HMRC saying I owed tax and wanted to visit today to sort out a payment of £1982. It really frightened me and I’m still shaken up. Thankfully, I called the number back and saw it wasn’t legit, then I checked online and found these reviews. Proper relief. They really need to sort this out.

I've just received a call from this number. To be honest, I view nearly all calls-apart from those from family and mates-as potential scams, so I steer clear of engaging. We've discovered that the most effective tactic is to simply greet them once and then remain quiet; they typically respond with a few greetings before they give up and hang up. It's baffling how these calls continue to flood in-sometimes up to ten a day, even on Sundays! Changing our phone number has crossed our minds, but part of me worries they'll track us down again anyway!

I picked up the phone when this number rang and straight away informed them that I recognised it as a scam. Oddly enough, they appeared to have quite a bit of personal information on me. The first chap introduced himself as Peter Wilson, though his thick Indian accent made it tough to follow what he was saying. He claimed there was a warrant out for my arrest, even providing a crime number, can you believe it? Then, a second caller named Ralph Bucknell came on, and his accent was even harder to decipher. He insisted that my bank assets would be frozen in ten minutes unless I parted with £1,987 right away. I reiterated that it was a scam, and just like that, they hung up!

I received a call from this number earlier today. After reaching out to HMRC, I was informed that it’s a scam, and I should disregard any future attempts to contact me from that number. They had my address and postcode and were fishing for my national insurance number. I made it very clear in no uncertain terms to bugger off. Additionally, I've been bombarded with calls from various other numbers; when I asked for their identifying information and the name of their company, I informed them that I had reported them to the police for harassment and for making unsolicited calls. Thankfully, it seems to have done the trick as I haven't heard from them since.

I received an automated call from this number on 11th May 2017, just after half past nine in the morning. There was a rather posh lady’s voice on the line, stating something along the lines of, “A lawsuit has been initiated against you. Press 1 for further information.” Naturally, we chose not to engage. My husband, who is 79, has developed paranoia due to a grave health condition, and I’m absolutely furious because now he believes he's in considerable danger and could possibly end up incarcerated. He has even gone so far as to pack a bag, anticipating a swift departure! The last thing that he requires at this moment is the added anxiety stemming from such a menacing scam. It begs the question: can't more be done to prevent these pesky calls from getting through?

I received a call from this number yesterday around 3:15 in the afternoon. They left a rather alarming message on my answering machine claiming that HMRC had initiated legal proceedings against me and urged me to get in touch with a solicitor forthwith. To be honest, I suspected it was a scam right off the bat, as I find it hard to believe that HMRC would communicate in such a manner. This morning I got a robo call saying HMRC was gonna take legal action, with a "press 1" prompt. I just put the phone down. Had to nip out for work, and when I got back my missus was really shaken up 'cause some upset woman was on the line demanding money.
