We were already on our laptop, so we decided to look up MSIT specialists and stumbled across a few tales about scams and dodgy characters. So, we told her that’s precisely what we were reading about. She kept going on, though, and we made it crystal clear we'd be reaching out to Microsoft ourselves. Once we verified who these people were, I would give them a ring, not the other way around. Then, lo and behold, she handed us this number! When we mentioned our preference for consulting our own computer technician if any problems arose, the gent on the other end - who we suspect might be Indian due to his heavy accent - insisted that our technician wouldn't be able to resolve the issue. We then explained that we weren't in a position to access our computer at that moment, and he promptly asked when it would be convenient for us. They stress the importance of verifying the identity and credentials of anyone requesting such access. It's astonishing how convincingly these scammers can present themselves as legitimate companies! Honestly, one has to wonder - has Microsoft ever outsourced contracts to anyone who could easily earn their keep independently?
