I got an answerphone message the other day, well an automated one really. Now apparently I’m facing a lawsuit and there’s an arrest warrant from HMRC out for me! Of course I know it’s all a con, but it’s still quite unsettling to get calls like this. I worry for people who might be more vulnerable and actually fall for it. What’s weird is when you do manage to speak to someone, they seem clueless, so what’s the point? Do they actually profit from convincing you to chat to those scammers? I got a call from a bloke with an Asian accent claiming to be from HMRC, saying there was some arrest warrant out for me over unpaid tax. He asked for my name and tried fishing for my dob, first guessing a year younger than I actually am. I gave him a fake date in the end, which he seemed to jot down. Total scam, no doubt. I was gonna try keeping him on the phone longer, but got irritated and ended up dropping some rude words (called him a wg or a n####r), then he just slammed the phone down.
