Just like a lot of folks here, I got a couple of recorded messages on my Northumberland landline yesterday claiming HMRC was going to take legal steps to get money from me. They told me to press 1 to chat with my case officer. Honestly, don’t trust it! I tried ringing HMRC to let them know but couldn’t get hold of anyone at all.

So I had someone ring me up at Tax Credits worried about this number. It's not registered anywhere in our system, so I’d say just ignore it. We usually call from private numbers and typically only send letters if there’s any money owed.

Some dodgy bloke called sayin’ I had an arrest warrant from HMRC. Thing is, I’m a copper myself, so I hope my taxes are all in order! They even bothered my folks askin’ about me, claimin’ I was wanted. I phoned back and the muppet started throwing random legal terms like “affidavit” and “filing papers with the court”. I didn’t hang about before telling him to jog on when he couldn’t answer my questions properly.

Got a robo call saying it was from HMRC, claiming they've been trying to reach me about some legal action. The message said if I press 1, I could talk to my case officer. Thing is, I've never had any letters or anything from them before. So, I picked up and before I could say anything, the call just dropped! So dodgy!
