5 yearsWhat’s alarming about this scam is that they had my personal information, including my name and address. The call involved two individuals claiming to be from Domestic and General; they might have been associated with homecare. I was preoccupied at the time and unfortunately ended up sharing my bank details, which they could use to set up a direct debit. Following that, I received another call, supposedly initiated by the first. My suspicions were raised, and I found myself arguing with this second caller, who was quite insistent on getting information about my appliances. It was all rather odd since the initial call referenced a specific fee of £89 related to my agreement, which seemed too precise for comfort. I've cross-checked with my existing insurance providers and discovered that I have policies with two different firms. Moving forward, I'm resolute about rejecting any calls, even from genuine sources trying to offer new deals, as I believe this one was misleading. I'm starting to wonder if former employees are involved in leaking sensitive information; it certainly appears to be a well-organised scam.5 yearsI realised immediately that the caller was a stranger, as they addressed me with my title and surname instead of my first name. I kept repeating "hello?" as if I was struggling to catch what the woman was saying, which served as a polite excuse to end the conversation without being outright discourteous. She had an Indian accent. After perusing some of the other comments on this site, I'm increasingly convinced that the authorities ought to investigate this matter. The call originated from a residential number in London, close to the Ueni Supermarket and the Equestrian Statue of Prince Charles, not far from Trafalgar Square - I even checked the map! If they can afford to be living in such a posh area, they've likely swindled many unsuspecting victims for considerable amounts of cash. STEER CLEAR OF THIS CALLER! However, do make sure to report them to BT and the non-emergency police line if needed, and remember to jot down the time of the call. We received our call at approximately 17:20 on 17th June 2021. Having caller ID on your phone is certainly a wise move these days. If you don't recognise anyone with an 020 area code, it's very likely a fraudulent call.LondonUeni SupermarketEquestrian Statue of Prince CharlesTrafalgar Square5 yearsI got a call from someone saying my washer’s insurance was up for renewal! I was like, what insurance? Just days ago, my washing machine finally packed up after two decades of use, and honestly, it never had any insurance attached when I bought it ages ago. So, I asked the caller when exactly I’d gotten this ‘insurance’ from, and wouldn’t you know it, she hung up on me straight away - perfect!5 yearsA voice with an Asian accent called and asked if this was my address. I told them it wasn’t.5 yearsJust got a call, definitely one of those dodgy scams.5 yearsSomeone rang me claiming they provided home care services.5 yearsOur home phone rung around 10.50, kept buzzing for a bit, but the moment I answered with a ‘hello?’ they just dropped the call straightaway.5 yearsSomebody rang me up saying my kitchen appliance warranty was nearly up. Thing is, I don’t even have one. So I asked them to give me the make and model of my oven, fridge and washing machine that they supposedly had. She then tried to dodge the question and switch the topic, but I cut her off saying to take my number off their list and to never call me again.5 yearsSomebody called me offering appliance insurance and sounded like she had done her homework on which company I’m already with. Honestly, they come across as super persuasive, so watch out!5 yearsThis has got to be a total rip-off linked to some home appliance insurance. It’s really creepy they somehow got my name. Tried ringing them back but the number just doesn’t work. Surely a genuine company would have a working contact number? Felt sketchy, so I’ve blocked it now.5 yearsBeware of the number 02033322997, it’s linked to a scam. Also watch out for 01413450775, looks like it’s connected to the same dodgy business. Stay careful!5 yearsah, the notorious quiet one, probably too caught up with dad and uncle pete sharing their… talents, leaving them speechless. bit of a shame, i usually enjoy messing around with folks like this who cant speak properly.Pete5 yearsGot a call from this number yesturday, and as soon as I saw it I said “am I speaking to Mr. XXX?” The bloke asked who I was and what I wanted. He said it was about domestic appliance insurance. I told him I was just answering for Mr. 20xx as he wasn’t home. He then asked when he’d be back, so I reminded him he’d already rung the day before. Then I just told him to jog on in a proper Boris style. What a pain.XXXBoris5 yearsThat domestic appliance warranty scam group seem to be ringing from a different number now. They keep saying my insurance or manufacturer warranty is nearly up, like I should do something about it - none of that is true for me. Just ignore and hang up!5 yearsI tried calling back after they hung up, but it turns out the number doesn’t even exist!5 yearsGot a call from a woman claiming she was Julie Walters! I was like, "Are you sure?" Turned out it was some kitchen appliance sales spiel. I told her firmly to stop calling and to remove my number from their list. Mentioned the company name too and told her this constant pestering was well beyond annoying.Julie Walters5 yearsbloody nuisance calls all day today! just got one where the person didn’t say a word, total silence. plus i had about four or five calls from supposed ‘energy’ companies. then an internet provider called warning me they’d cut my service if i didn’t hit 1 to talk to a manager! can you believe that? maddening!5 yearsReceived a call from someone claiming to represent ‘HomeCare’ regarding the renewal of my white goods insurance. However, when I requested a telephone number to call back, they abruptly disconnected the line. Quite dodgy, if you ask me.HomeCare5 yearsReceived a call claiming to be from a home care service, stating that my contents insurance policy had lapsed.5 yearsI encountered a rather abrasive gentleman who kept insisting on knowing my surname. When he inquired if I was Mrs ******, I made it clear that I wasn’t. However, he continued to push for my name, which felt rather intimidating, so I decided to end the call.5 yearsReceived a rather persistent call from a firm named Home Care Services, claiming they were offering a substantial discount on insurance for appliances like fridges and washing machines. The caller was quite forceful, pressuring me to make a bank transfer of £495 right there and then. He insisted that I should have received some correspondence about this offer in the post a few days prior, yet I had nothing through my letterbox. When I mentioned that I'd prefer written confirmation before proceeding, the fellow abruptly disconnected the call. Quite the shady encounter, if you ask me!Home Care Services5 yearsI received a rather dubious call from a chap named Ethan claiming to represent "National Home Cover," which he alleged was situated in Brighton. He was offering a supposed discount on premiums for two of my appliances since I hadn’t made any claims in the last twelve months. The only issue is, I’m with a different insurance provider for my appliances! I played along for a bit until he asked me for my sort code and account number. I promptly informed him that this was an unsolicited call and that I would review the documents he said he’d send when they arrived. Afterwards, I decided to look up NHC online and gave them a ring at 03338 801762. They've confirmed they’re indeed based in Brighton, but they do not engage in cold calling, and their customer service checked, only to find my details were not on their system at all. Definitely a SCAM, so be cautious out there!EthanBrightonNHC5 yearsI received a phone call regarding insurance for my white goods, and it was rather peculiar. They greeted me by name and acknowledged that I had certain items under cover, yet they proceeded to ask me to specify what I had insured. I found it a bit odd, especially since they were the ones reaching out! The tone quickly turned somewhat defensive when I raised this. She mentioned that the insurance was nearing its expiration and that I should expect some paperwork through the letterbox soon. While that aspect seemed somewhat legitimate, I can't help but feel wary, especially considering that my appliances are hardly two years old. Quite the mystery!5 yearsReceived a dodgy call about replacing my washing machine and fridge. Definitely a scam!5 yearsI've just had a rather curious phone call regarding the renewal of some policy for a Fridge, Gas Cooker, and Washing Machine. When I mentioned that I don’t own a Washing Machine, the caller seemed quite insistent. I firmly declined the offer, explaining that I don’t actually hold any policy with your company. I wished them well and disconnected the call. Cheers!5 yearsI'm relieved that Sky Talk Shield managed to keep these con artists at bay from my elderly folks. Unfortunately, my parents had already fallen victim to Coverteam Direct and Digital Satellite over the past year, which is absolutely appalling. Please, take heed - these scammers come at you from all sorts of angles and adopt various disguises; they are nothing short of cunning and sly.
