5 yearsWhat really worried me about this scam was that they already knew my full name and address. It was a call from two people pretending to be from Domestic and General - or maybe something like homecare. I was a bit rushed at the time and ended up giving them my bank details, which I later realised could only be used for setting up a direct debit. Then, not long after, I got a follow-up call connected with the first one. That’s when I started getting suspicious and argued with the caller. They kept asking for details about my white goods, which I didn’t understand the purpose of. The first call had correctly mentioned the £89 fee for my agreement, which surprised me since they clearly had some info. I decided to check my insurance providers and found I have two different policies. Now I’m just ignoring every call, even if it’s about genuine offers. I reckon this must be a really clever scam, maybe involving former staff stealing data from companies.5 yearsI could tell straight away this caller wasn’t someone I knew because they addressed me as “Mr” followed by my surname, never using my first name at all. I kept replying with “Hello?” like I couldn’t quite hear them, just to get off the call without sounding rude. The voice sounded like an Indian accent. After reading other people’s stories on here, I honestly think the authorities should be investigating these people. The call came from a London landline near the Ueni Supermarket and that horse statue of Prince Charles, close to Trafalgar Square - I actually checked on the map. If they’ve got a place in such an expensive area, they’ve probably already conned people out of a lot of money. BEWARE and do NOT trust this number! But definetly report it to BT and, if needed, to the police’s non-emergency line. Make sure you keep a record of when the call came through. Ours was at about 5.20pm on 17th June 2021. These days, it’s a smart move to have Caller ID. If you don’t recognise an 020 number, there’s a strong chance it’s just some scam trying to catch you out.LondonUeni SupermarketEquestrian Statue of Prince CharlesTrafalgar Square5 yearsI got a call from someone saying my washer’s insurance was up for renewal! I was like, what insurance? Just days ago, my washing machine finally packed up after two decades of use, and honestly, it never had any insurance attached when I bought it ages ago. So, I asked the caller when exactly I’d gotten this ‘insurance’ from, and wouldn’t you know it, she hung up on me straight away - perfect!5 yearsA voice with an Asian accent called and asked if this was my address. Thing is, I don’t even have one. So I asked them to give me the make and model of my oven, fridge and washing machine that they supposedly had. Honestly, they come across as super persuasive, so watch out!5 yearsThis has got to be a total rip-off linked to some home appliance insurance. It’s really creepy they somehow got my name. Tried ringing them back but the number just doesn’t work. Surely a genuine company would have a working contact number? He said it was about domestic appliance insurance. I told him I was just answering for Mr. 20xx as he wasn’t home. He then asked when he’d be back, so I reminded him he’d already rung the day before. Then I just told him to jog on in a proper Boris style. What a pain.XXXBoris5 yearsThat domestic appliance warranty scam group seem to be ringing from a different number now. They wanted me to pay £495 straight over the phone. The caller was really insistent, kept pushing me a lot. When I said I needed something in writing before going ahead, the bloke just ended the call abruptly.Home Care Services5 yearsGot a call from someone named Ethan claiming to be from "National Home Cover", supposedly based in Brighton. He was offering me a discount on my appliance insurance because apparently, I hadn’t made any claims in a year. Thing is, I use a totally different insurer for my appliances! I played along until he asked for my bank sort code and account number. I told him it was an unsolicited call and said I’d fill in any paperwork once I received it. Later, I Googled NHC and rang their official number (03338 801762). They confirmed they’re in Brighton but never do cold calls, and after checking their system, my details definitely weren’t there. Looks like a scam - watch out!EthanBrightonNHC5 yearsReceived a call about some sort of white goods insurance. They clearly had my name and knew I had things insured, but then asked me what exactly I’d got on the policy. I told her if she’s ringing me, she should already know, but she got quite defensive about it. She said the insurance was about to expire and that I’d be getting some paperwork through the post soon. That part sounded pretty legit, but the stuff I have is barely two years old, so I’m a bit suspicious.5 yearsGot a call about my fridge and washing machine being due for an upgrade, but it was a total scam. Don’t fall for it!5 yearsHad a call just now about renewing some policy for my washing machine, fridge gas cooker and all that. I told the guy I don’t even own a washing machine. Still, he was asking if I wanted to renew it or something. I said no, I don’t have any policy with you lot. Ended with a quick thanks and goodbye from me.5 yearsLuckily, Sky Talk Shield blocked these scammers from reaching my elderly folks. Over the past year, my parents fell victim to scams from Coverteam Direct and Digital Satellite - it’s truly awful. Be careful, these crooks come at you in all sorts of ways and with different names, they’re sneaky and tricky.
