I recently picked up a call on my family's landline and was greeted by a recording of a woman claiming to represent HMRC, stating that they were initiating legal proceedings against me. I knew right away that this was a dubious situation since the tax authority wouldn’t operate in such an unprofessional manner. There was no clear identification of the individual I would potentially be speaking with, which only reinforced my suspicions about the legitimacy of the call. I couldn't help but think how convincing it might be for someone older or less savvy. I did consider selecting option one just to string them along and waste their time, but held off as I was concerned they might somehow charge me for the call.

Got a call supposedly from HMRC, some bloke named PETER WILSON with an Indian accent started threatening me with court stuff. Felt really dodgy so I just hung up. Definitely a scam.

As a company, we received a rather alarming voicemail on Saturday afternoon. An automated female voice claimed that HMRC was initiating legal action against us and urged us to call back, quoting a case number. The message was quite convincing, but given that we are unaware of any issues with HMRC, I decided to do a bit of research online. That's when I stumbled upon your advisory ⚠️ It's evident that this could easily ensnare someone who tends to worry. How deceitful that such tactics are deployed!

Got a voicemail while I was out, said there's some lawsuit against me. The voice was automated. I called back since the number wasn’t premium, and some guy with an Asian accent picked up, noise going on loud behind him. He claimed to be from Her Majesty’s Customs or something like that. I knew straight away it was a scam, told him so, and he hung up right away. It’s frustrating, especially for us pensioners. This kind of thing really ought to be put to an end.

Got a phone call from a guy with a strong Indian accent claiming there was some issue with HMRC. I gave him a fake name straight away, and he started rattling off some address. Then he asked for my insurance number, but I told him I didn’t know it offhand - honestly, who remembers that? After that, he just hung up. Pretty obvious he was calling from India.

Just had a bloke with a thick Indian accent ring me up, claiming to be from HMRC. He hung up rather abruptly when I mentioned I couldn’t recall my insurance number. It was clear he was calling from overseas, really noticeable accent!

I just got a call from this number, total rubbish. If HMRC want to reach you, they always send a letter first. I’d recommend anyone, especially older folks like me, to use an answerphone. That way, if it’s legit, they’ll leave their details properly.

On the 7th of April, 2018, at 11:00 AM, I received a call claiming to be from HMRC regarding some sort of legal action. The quality of the recording was subpar, and the person on the line didn’t sound like a native English speaker. Quite concerning, to be honest.

Just got a call around half past eleven this morning. The person said they were calling from HMRC and claimed there was some legal action against me. They told me to press 1 to talk to my case officer. I hesitated at first, then pressed 1, but quickly spotted it was dodgy and hung up straight away before chatting to anyone. Just got a call for my 87 year old mum from some dodgy bloke, really shook her up when they started talking about some legal action against her. She wasn’t quite sure what they were on about. They even tried to get her to press 1 or something. I’ve told her repeatedly not to press any buttons when she gets calls like that, but obviously it’s tricky for her to understand it all.
