Just had a ring from this number, but I never bother to pick up the phone. Honestly, it’s the worst thing one can do as it merely validates to them that your number is legitimate, and it'll probably be sold off to every dodgy character out there. Here’s my suggestion, which is rather effective: inform your genuine contacts to ring you and let it go on ring for the first 4 or 5 tones, then hang up. Once you’ve heard that, dial 1471 to find out who it was that called. You can then return the call to the decent people in your life. When you try 1471 on an unknown number with a never-ending tone, you can make a note of it and, out of sheer curiosity, search it online to see what sort of lowlifes have attempted to pester you and waste your precious time. I’ve noticed that a staggering 95% of these calls fall into that dreadful category.
