Fingers crossed this scam didn't cause too much damage, but there’s a good chance some malware got onto the computer. It’s important to alert the bank straight away. The first steps should be to run a proper clean-up of the PC and inform your bank about what happened. If you want to report it to Action Fraud, you can fill in their victim crime report form online or give them a ring on 0300 123 2040.

If you've come across scam calls, a good move is to text the phone number and info about the scam to 7726. To cut down on annoying pop-ups, make sure to have solid antivirus software installed. Personally, I use Norton 360, but there are plenty of other decent options too. Whenever one of those suspicious pop-ups shows up, don’t click anything and run a thorough system scan straight away. I’m not sure if it’s easy to screenshot these pop-ups, but if you manage to, try emailing it over to '[email protected]'. Just be careful not to engage with any shady messages or calls!

My computer got taken over after this number called me. There's no doubt it's a scam.

I got this annoying pop-up saying my computer was locked because of some "state security issue". It told me to ring a number for Microsoft, but I knew straight away it was a dodgy scam, so I didn't call. It's a UK number, so I don't get why the police haven’t tracked them down yet. I'm thinking of reporting it to Action Fraud, though honestly, they seem more like Inaction Fraud to me!

I'd be proper freaked out if my screen suddenly started buzzing with loud beeps and a bunch of windows popping up out of nowhere. If you're unsure, it's best to look up the official Microsoft Support contact in your area and ring them directly instead of replying to these dodgy calls. And don’t believe the nonsense about it being a free number - it definitely isn’t!

I got a message claiming to be from Windows Defender warning me, and they gave a number saying it was Microsoft Support. The wording was totally off and sounded really dodgy, not like proper English at all. Pretty sure it’s just a scam trying to trick people.

Got a dodgy message saying my phone had a trojan virus and to ring this number to reach Microsoft. Bit of a giveaway though, cause Microsoft don’t send messages like that asking you to call. Total scam, don’t fall for it!

Got a call from someone claiming to be Microsoft, sounded like they had an Indian accent. They were trying to get me to let them into my computer.
