I had a pretty similar run-in. It got worse when I told them I never got any letter from revenue about unpaid tax, they just said they don't need to send any paperwork and only after I pay they can show proof of payment. Another odd thing was when I called them back and gave my full name, there was no typing noise in the background like someone normally would have on their keyboard. Really felt sketchy and a bit scary.

Had the same kind of call. Saying theres a court case against me and my home is being watched, all just rubbish. Any legit company wouldnt leave a robotic message without saying who they actually wanted to talk to! Plus if its legal stuff they gotta send a letter in the post, not just call. They tell you to ring back but im sure its one of them expensive numbers and you'll be on hold forever. Google Phone automatically sent this call straight to voicemail since it flagged it as spam. I only caught the last part where they threatened legal action, so I’m really glad to see other people here saying it’s a scam. The number showed up as 0118 304 0465, which I’ve noticed on this site too, linked to accident claim calls and scammy stuff like this.

Got a pre-recorded message, figured it was a scam so rang back to have a word. The bloke said he was David Watson from HMRC. Turned out to be a Pakistani guy with a really thick accent, telling us we were under suspicion for tax evasion. We kept chatting with him, his English was awful and he was so unprofessional. When he twigged we were onto him, he got pissed off and started swearing in Urdu. We just had a giggle and ended the call.
